Hi, long time lurker, first time poster, Can someone PM me the new songs? I used to be a member of the old board but I lost my login, megalolz. Nah, I'm just fucking with you. I only found this site the other day and heard these songs today via (deep voice) 'other internet places'. I'm just really excited about new Pearl Jam music and thought I'd give an outsiders view on the new songs. Get the torches ready, I'm fireproof, bitches!

I've been a fan since Vitology, having skipped earlier albums in favour of Ice Cube, The KLF and Stone Roses, and other assorted late eighties/early nineties awesomeness. I hated Vitology when I first bought it, but when you paid £11 for a cassette you were going to listen to it until the tape got tangled, or your Walkmen exploded. I ended up loving it, and have been pretty much obsessed ever since.

Like I said, new Pearl Jam music excites me. And these songs are no exception.

Getaway: I love the grove of this one. Matt is great when it breaks, simple but forceful. I some times struggle with off kilter time signature songs but this has the best of both worlds, straightforward music and a slightly loopy delivery. It's dark but fun at the same time. Like talking to your girlfriend while thinking about her sisters tits. When I heard Let it Ride I thought 'fucking release jammy tracks like this you bell ends!' And they did, and I think this is better. Eddie sings great on this.

Swallowed Whole: Love this too. Yes, it sounds a bit ITW, but I'm all for that. It's a bit 'produced' but I can live with it. Ten had so much production on it I had to wipe its mouth every time I popped the CD in, but it still rocked (and never swallowed whole apparently). My tastes have evolved along side Pearl Jam like some weird menstrual synch up (which is why I wasn't too sold on ST as it sounded like a band trying to be younger) and I like tracks like Skipping and Better Days. In fact, this is Better Days with a hangover and its balls hanging out. Cons: Slightly nasal, ala In Hiding.

Let the Records Play: My least favourite, but I'm intrigued by the music. Some of the places Eddie takes his delivery seem a little 70's-ish, which jars with the shitty heeled sounding music. I might be way off but I'm hearing a QOTSA/Desert sessions vibe to this and I'm hoping with further listens the vocal will click. Still better than most of Backspacer.

Lightning Bolt: Everyone's heard it. I think it's great. Others don't. My only complaint with this version is that Ed does an awesome multi track vocal/harmony in the first part of the song (when it first breaks) but that isn't repeated for the rest of the song. If I was Mike though, I'd smash my guitar head onto Brendan O'Briens fading finger, then play an hella-cool solo while he's crying on his Casio.

So far so good. Can't wait for the rest of it. I'm off to drink more wine.

New here, but have enjoyed the commentary and site for many years. I couldn't resist and listened to the 4. They all took me a few listens to embrace, but now I can't get enough of Getaway. For the first time in a long time, I actually like a studio version over a live version - Lightning Bolt is great, much better than my first time with it at Wrigley. LTRP is a fun, different style for PJ. I could hear it after Comeback on a setlist. As many have mentioned the quality is subpar, but Jeff's bass, Mike's guitar and Ed are the standouts in all four of these songs. I would rank them Getaway, LB, LTRP, SW.

Anyone notice the artist title for all these tracks? "PEARL JAM tracks for MLB" Have to think with the album release in October that this group was submitted to FOX and TBS for inclusion in their coverage of the baseball postseason. (cue the outrage)

You missed all the outrage. It was 30 pages ago when others brought up the same point. And also there was no outrage because Pearl Jam has done this before numerous times and everyone either thinks its (a) cool (b) remarkable that they still have enough cultural currency to show up in such a slot or (c) don't give a shit at all about it.
