No no, the real heroes worked in grocery stores (before they were torched).

Nothing says “hero” quite like having to expose yourself to risk for poverty-level wages, because if you refuse to come in you face absolute ruin.

I hope you tip well at the checkout. Human decency and goodwill.

My family managed and staffed a Perkins restaurant in the Midwest from 1981 to 2012, not 200 miles from Minneapolis. Literally every person in my family except my father worked there when I was growing up. Anyone peddling the logic of paying a service job pennies and then justifying it with tip culture can eat me raw.

Perhaps having those conversations with children earlier than we have been would be a good fucking start

I am all for a living wage and where I live minimum wage is getting closer every year. Until that time it seems the backers of human decency and goodwill would be heavy tippers at underpaid essential services such as the grocery checkout.
Or maybe I've highlighted the problem with deeming actions as falling under human decency and goodwill. We all have different definitions and all it does is lead to feelings of self-righteousness and divide.

Aside from a typical 8yo kid not understanding the cognitive and emotional impacts, as a teacher, you have to be really careful how far you go. I've taught CO history to 9/10yo kids for five years now, and each year I'd like to take some of the subject matter further, or interject some personal commentary about how events a, b, and c led to these effects on today's society. I've been ridiculed by parents for the slightest things, such as sharing an article about Greta Thunberg crossing the ocean to make it to the UN security council. It happens so much that I feel like I can't even stray from the scripted lessons out of fear of confrontation.

Basically, what I'm saying is that it's a slippery slope in so many ways as a teacher. Parents on either side of the political spectrum, who have these discussions with their kids, add their own influences to the conversation regardless of age. Parents are ultimately their kids #1 teacher, influencer, etc.

As long as we have such a hateful divide in this country, young kids won't really be able to comprehend the scope of the deep-seeded injustices. That's why they blindly pledge their allegiance to the good guy flag every day at school, and treat days of remembrance like it's party time, and that the big bad virus will have to take my party from my cold dead hands...

I hope some of that ramble made sense.

The golden rule is simple to understand for most kids... not so much for most adults.

Most kids would probably just get either 'ACAB' or 'God, Guns and a Bible' from their parents... and they kinda already do.

Yea but also aren’t these same kids learning behaviors and traits at home from their parents and the people in their lives who may be - in many ways - teaching them that blacks people are of a lesser species ??

Also some piece of shit I went to high school with just posted this clip going around about an “elderly woman in a wheelchair” being assaulted at target during the riots. Shared by “gun rights derp derp” with the hashtag “plugathug” and I just started Fucking Crying.
