There will be some serious supply chain issues with getting units out by release, so a delay makes a bit more sense. I'm guessing Sony waits for the Xbox price before announcing theirs.scrub12 wrote:With no E3, the new console announcements are really getting dragged out. I remember being able to preorder my Xbox right after E3 2013.
Now, we might not get pricing until July or August for supposed holiday releases.

I think Xbox is already trying to wait out Sony. They’ve said they have full flexibility on price from Microsoft heads and wouldn’t be surprised if they try to undercut Sony.
PS5’s website updated and no longer mentions backwards compatibility. Probably still coming at some point but maybe not at launch.

backwards compatibility is key for my purchase. I'm not going to sell everything then buy remastered versions or whatever

Re: Next-Gen Consoles (Coming 2020-ish)
Interesting. There would be a big backlash if they didn't have it at launch, given Cerny specifically mentioned it being a launch feature multiple times. I'm guessing they will wait to make an official announcement until they can get figure out what games will be included. Wasn't there a list of games on the Microsoft website when XBox One started to add backwards compatibility?scrub12 wrote:I think Xbox is already trying to wait out Sony. Re: Next-Gen Consoles (Coming 2020-ish)
I’m not sure on what games were listed when Xbox started it but they were pretty transparent about it. Sony hasn’t really been so far, and I know in the past one of their heads said something about not understanding why people want to play older games with backwards compatible. I would guess its still coming but they could be having issues with if.

Sony has been criticized quite a bit for their rollout of PS5 information, but I can understand why they are keeping the marketing machine delayed given they have two huge, Triple A exclusives to release in the next two months.
If the information is still unclear or dodgy come August or September, I will start to worry.

This is very cool. But I'm a bit dubious by the "select titles" disclaimer.scrub12 wrote:I’m not sure on what games were listed when Xbox started it but they were pretty transparent about it. I think Microsoft has done just fine with their rollout so far. The gameplay thing was dumb, but other than that, its been fine. Their specs are great but people want to see what those studios they bought are working on next month.

I agree. Microsoft has done very well so far. It all comes down to games, however. I'm really curious to see what all their studios are working on. Sony has clearly outdone them this generation.scrub12 wrote:I think Microsoft has done just fine with their rollout so far. The gameplay thing was dumb, but other than that, its been fine. Re: Next-Gen Consoles (Coming 2020-ish)
Predictions (based on pure speculation)
- The actual look of the console will be revealed
- Announcement of many current "free to play" games being available on Day One (ex. Fortnite, PUBG, CoD, etc.)
- A few more third party games will be shown (maybe 1-2 exclusives or timed exclusives)
- No details on backwards compatibility for non first party games
- No details on services
- Horizon 2 debut trailer with gameplay (early 2021 release date)
- New IP from a first party studio trailer
- Bloodborne 2
- Spider-Man 2 will be a launch game with full trailer and gamplay (to end presentation)
- no price or specific release date beyond Holiday 2020

Spiderman 2 being a launch game seems unlikely. The first one isn’t even two years old. That’s a quick turnaround...

Re: Next-Gen Consoles (Coming 2020-ish)
Insomniac has two teams and regularly pumps out a major game every 2 years. The first game was such a huge hit and Sony bought the studio. I'm guessing if it doesn't come later this year it will be out by December 2021 at the latest.scrub12 wrote:Spiderman 2 being a launch game seems unlikely. The first one isn’t even two years old.
