Right, but I think it's possible for this to be a different subjective value judgment than judging what you personally enjoy the most, and I think the underlying premise of the thread was for people to make those two separate but equally subjective value judgments, and compare the lists. Not subjectivity vs. objectivity, but subjectivity through one lens vs. subjectivity through another. Maybe TJ can clarify whether this is what he meant.
Yeah, I read it this way from the start.

Yes this is exactly it.

At the end these are all just Pearl Jam songs. If you like one, it’s the best one, for the reasons that make you like it.

I really like Future Days for a number of personal reasons. I think it's a competent song, but it punches above its weight class for me. I would never call it one of their best

Time and place stamps for songs are very important. That song always takes me back to very bad medical diagnosis and some time after that news had sprouted driving home from somewhere with my wife asleep in the passenger seat, and my young son drifting off in the back. I was left alone with my thoughts. Then this song comes on and it is telling me it will be okay.

I just wanted to announce that I've consolidated my "Favourite" and "Best" lists, and I now officially consider Leatherman one of the Best Pearl Jam Songs.

Yes!!! Backspacer came out shortly after my first child was born and my dad was battling cancer. The End literally brought me to tears.

To this day the song still elicits a strong emotional response in me, even though my son is now an 11 year old pain in the ass and my dad is still ticking and healthier than ever!

THE best Pearl Jam song - ie, best writing, of cultural significance, best example of "peak" Pearl Jam is CORDUROY. It's the song I'd play to someone to get them into PJ, with GIVEN TO FLY as a backup...

But my favourite song is HARD TO IMAGINE.

You couldn't have two more different PJ songs.

Writer's Block is the best ever. I'll brook no argument.

I love Gigaton as much as anyone, but it absolutely benefited from this. A grown up album, for a grown up base, in an uncertain time.

I’d have a bit of a different set of songs, but completely agree on the premise.

that distinction doesn't require an objective referent, though
