If anyone's an idiot, it's not because they still like Pearl Jam. Man, there is more important shit going on in this world.

Of the 12 new tunes, it looks like there's going to be 4-6 real "keepers" that will be in my regular PJ rotation. That's fine with me.

Man, LB, the song, just needed to be about 1 minute longer. The fade out comes way too soon!

Yeah. That may be my biggest issue with these songs. I am withholding final judgement until I hear how it transitions into the next song

I'm petty excited about these. I don't want to make comparisons to other albums just yet because I want to wait a little until my pink "New Pearl Jam" glasses are gone. I made that when Backspacer leaked and thought it was just so wonderful and so much better than Avocado and bla bla.

Right now they're exactly what I realistically could hope for in new Pearl Jam. The Band sounds energized and kind of organic and Eddie sounds good even though his pronunciation irks me just a little bit. I don't know why he needs to sing Es as Us. (forgivenuuuhuuuus). The strength of his voice in these tracks makes up for the pronunciation so I don't care about it that much. The songs also feel more personal to me than all of Backspacer did but we'll see how that develops after more listening. And BOB does absolutely nothing wrong! He even does good stuff! :hooray: These aren't the greatest tracks ever for me but I like them quite a bit.

1. Getaway
I had the biggest smile on my face the first time I listened to it. It's a really good mix of fun and emotion to me. From the reviews I would have never expected to like this song so much. Ed sounds really good here. I hope my excitement for the track will still be there after heavy listening because right now I reaaalllly like it.

2. Lightning Bolt
Every worry I had about the track from the live version has disappeared now. I like that it sounds more mellow than it did at Wrigley and hearing all the instruments better now even the chorus isn't that bad! It helps that Ed doesn't need to concentrate on his guitar playing while singing in the studio making the chorus much tighter. I enjoy BOB's additions to the track.

3. LTRP
Nothing really special for me. It's okay and I won't skip it because it's fun enough. But right now the only thing this is to me is "fun" but it's better than what I expected reading the reviews. There were bits in here that might make me like it more when I listened to it enough. Let's see.

4. Swallowed Whole
This song will grow the most I think. I like it quite a bit now and whoever said it sounded like R.E.M. is right. That's a good thing to me as R.E.M. is in my top 5 bands ever. That bridge is really nice. Again: Better than I expected.

I don't know how to rank these because they're all so different so I won't even try. The only thing I know is that LTRP would be last.

Overall: I'm happy for now. :hooray: This album might be really good.

I tend to find hyperbolic criticism as idiotic as hyperbolic praise. Plus it has the added drawback of being mean spirited so you end up being idiotic and a dick (and usually not half as funny as you think you are)

We have yet to hear the longest songs on the album, so I am excited about that.

This would make a good RM horror movie that no one else would be interested in.

Did Stone write Unemployable?

Ah so we're using that logic.
I tend to find hyperbolic criticism as idiotic as hyperbolic praise. Plus it has the added drawback of being mean spirited so you end up being idiotic and a dick (and usually not half as funny as you think you are)
Sorry Stip but there is no way in any universe that LTRP is 5 stars. We need the occasional reality check around here.

Ah yes. Damn... based on LTRP, I wanted Stone to have also written Unemployable, so that we could say we've identified the Shania Twain fan in the band.

We can believe that, though, and still not be a dick about it. I like these four songs, quite a lot, but -- shock horror -- I'm also not an unintelligent moron who likes shitty music, and recognise that LTRP is the weakest. The problem with negging everything is that you tend to be the one who looks like a dick.
