They had found some numbers (don't know where) and had talked to the President of Baseball Operations for the Cards, John Mozeliak. It was stated that the profit margins owners typically see are around 15%. That is small potatoes compared to other business dealings that can usually net a profit in the 30-50% range.

Mo' stated that they don't own baseball teams to be profitable. They are usually a long term investment. You are building the value of the team and that is the pay off in the end if you ever decide to sell or whatever.

It sounds like an interesting set up. Whether these numbers are true or not remains to be seen, and whether or not owners see larger profit than 15% is unknown as well since they don't discuss their numbers.

I dont think the AT exemption is much of a concern for them, a few timely donations will solve that problem.
