I think the point is, yeah, there are evil, horrible people out there. They can be cops or any other profession and some can be racist a**holes. Should it be harder to be a cop? Yeah. There should be more vetting. So focus on those issues. I believe all the cops responsible for those horrendous acts have been and are being dealt with. So what now? Should we go loot and destroy a mall and put some more people out of jobs?

One doesn't justify the other though. Just because that many cops died doesn't make it right for the killing of unarmed people. Why bring that stat up? Being a police officer is a dangerous job and they all know that going into it. Being unarmed and black shouldn't be dangerous.

In the MPV data set, Rice is listed as "unarmed" with "toy gun" noted as "alleged weapon," and from a brief review it looks like cases with toy weapons (or "video game controller") are by and large filtered into the "unarmed" category. However, both the "unclear" and the "allegedly armed" categories contain numerous cases where the alleged weapon is something like "rock," "chair," "flashlight," "hot glue gun," "pepper spray," "pen" (I swear to god those are all real), so while it's possible for any of those items to be perceived as a weapon, or even used as one, it's safe to assume that at least some of those cases should really be considered "unarmed."
