This. I think that is the weakest point on that album. I still enjoy it when I hear them live but to me if you are listening to the album front to back, it’s the least essential part.
Totally agree.
Hot Take: both of those songs are better than Porch.
Jesus no.

When I was in 7th grade, we had to choose a song to play for the class and then discuss the lyrics. I chose "Deep" because it was my favourite song at the time. I don't think my teacher liked it.

Was it at least a good discussion?

Not really, no. We had to move along quickly so my friend Ben could play fucking "Lightning Crashes".

The rape verse in Deep is a great segue to Lighting Crashes.

There's a rape verse?

As you can see, my analysis of the lyrics was not very comprehensive.

I love Deep, and think it has really good lyrics. An underrated Ten song for sure.

The third verse is the one you’re looking for, here.

I did this in 7th grade with King of Pain by The Police. Still love the band & Sting, but looking back those lyrics are basically a 7th grade poem that would've gotten a C from teach.

There’s a little black spot on the sun today...

My senior English teacher LOVED The Police/Sting. We had to read Oedipus Rex because of this song.

In 7th grade they would allow a student each day to play music over the intercom that would indicate it was time to go to homeroom class. I once choose Tremor Christ. Maybe 4 people liked it but i felt like a god.

We did a similar thing in high school for what the school called Spirit Week.

Someone played Girls by the Beastie Boys and they cut it out before the last verse about girls doing all the domestic manual labor.

Well at least it wasn't Paul Revere & the whiffleball bat line..

Ok, back to discussing Deep. 3rd verse. Very creepy.

Wow we did this too, I'd completely forgotten about it. My song was "Staring at the Sun" by The Offspring lol

Another guy in my class played that Offspring song where he sings "you stupid dumb shit goddamn mother fucker!" (Bad Habit I think?) solely because the teacher said we could use songs that had swear words and he wanted to pick a song with the most possible swear words. He was a pretty cool guy.
