If you wanted to, you could say "In My Tree" was a U2 anthem with cooler drumming and no production polish, "Red Mosquito" is a typical blues stomper, "DTE" is a bellowed grunge song attempted after grunge is over, "GTF" is another U2 anthem with more interesting dynamics and better drumming and louder guitars, "1/2 Full" is another blues stomper akin to Red Mosquito and Rival. Etc. Etc. Of course, we're not that dismissive because we love the songs.
There's hope then that we'll love these too? One day?
Of course there is, that's what I'm saying. PJ aren't suddenly rehashing old tunes, they always did it.
There's a saying around my parts: That which is new is actually something old that's been well forgotten.

Erm... doesn't sound as smooth as in the original language, but you should get it.

I can never remember what 'Alone' sounds like despite the fact I've heard it a thousand times. Like much PJ, "Education" is a pretty standard rock song that would sound far less interesting if Matt hadn't decided to give it an off-kilter rhythm involving toms and backbeats.

Alone
Education
In My Tree
Red Mosquito
DTE
GTF
1/2 Full
JG

something like that...

I cannot associate these songs with anyone else. No one.
Really? If you wanted to, you could say "In My Tree" was a U2 anthem with cooler drumming and no production polish, "Red Mosquito" is a typical blues stomper, "DTE" is a bellowed grunge song attempted after grunge is over, "GTF" is another U2 anthem with more interesting dynamics and better drumming and louder guitars, "1/2 Full" is another blues stomper akin to Red Mosquito and Rival. Etc. Etc. Of course, we're not that dismissive because we love the songs.
So Pearl Jam has made an EP. They have some work to do then.
If these songs aren't the "filler" of this album, it will take some of the wind from my sails.

All her problems they won't die with you :)
Looks like you were listening to ...Like Clockwork. Looks very reminiscent of the album cover.

I like it!
I thought it would be could if they made a music video for LB in which a skeleton man tangoed a lady-in-red type of girl in a room full of mirrors while the walls of the castle around them collapsed and turned to sand

I like that idea!
I tweeted the guy who made the cartoon MYM video for Youtube.
Will try to get him interested, who knows :)

Are talking ourselves out of loving this?

I think we might be

This is why leaks are bad. Among other reasons.

wait, wait, and what if... what if... what if the whole album is like... the Moon... with its dark side and it's bright side... and like we've only been allowed to have a look at the bright side so far... but once we hear the rest of the stuff we'll complete the circle and see the dark side too... and that's like the whole idea of the album to have two contrasting kinds of music on it... and this also why there's a track called Yellow Moon almost at the end of the record??? huh? huh??

What about Pearl Jam during the last 10 years even remotely suggests they would put that much thought into this album?

i just remembered that Jeff (or was it Mike) barely saved Yellow Moon from being scrapped at the last minute, so my little theory goes...

Been running around with my kids soccer and softball games all morning. Somebody catch me up on the last 16 pages. Are we all shitting on this now after a day to think about it?

Does Stip still like it? I've been a lurker for about 4 years and my PJ tastes align most with his (ducking), including a love for all things Backspacer.

I haven't heard the leak, just enjoying the discussion.

I agree completely. I don't see these as poppy as everyone else. Would be wierd at this point for them to put out another Not For You or Whipping. This is a very solid start to the album. I didn't care as much for BS. These songs (except maybe LB) do not sound like anything on there.
