I’ve always been fascinated by the way that conservative persecution complexes seem to manifest as fantasies of being silenced, while also openly sharing their views and encouraging others to read articles expressing their perspective that were published in wide-reaching news magazines.

I assume that the detachment between that feeling and the reality of the world around them is why they often end up having to hold up asinine nonsense (for no particular reason, I’ll give the example of people disagreeing with a children’s book’s message) as evidence of some nightmarish cultural tipping point.
