The world seem to be running low on centrists, everything is a left/right shouting match.
Chaos is the buffet that which burt feeds on
The left and right must come together to purge the centrist. Complete the horseshoe.
This is probably why the right will lose. They are so weak. They even comdemn their own, try to make a deal with anyone. Meanwhile, the left feel morally obligated to support even leftist looters, like they are the saints on earth. They will stop at nothing.

Centrist will be left to see the world burn.
At least in the states the right is FAR more unified than the left right now.

You’ve got both the left and the centre represented in the Democratic Party, so there’s bound to be conflict in big politics. But the left seems fierce in many other arenas. Trump’s insanity is probably contributing to that growth.

yea weird there might be a few opposing views on how to move forward with police reform.
But that isn’t what burt is suggesting. He’s rightfully pointing out that the progressives have consistently misrepresented the message of activists, so why is there reason to believe the currently downplayed inquisition is any different?

Mariame and other activists like Ruth Wilson Gilmore have been calling for police and prison abolition for decades. Their critiques have been adopted by people who want to reform the system without abolishing it entirely. There is sometimes an overlap in rhetoric. Again, why would this be controversial.

For what it's worth, as far as I can tell Burt's "point" is that we're on our way to a cultural revolution and there's nothing you can say to disprove that.

If I wanted to do some fear-mongering about progressive activism I'd maybe pick a historical precedent that doesn't sound so fucking metal.

Shouldn't the lesson here be that peaceful marches like this are pointless and haven't been effective for decades? Hasn't capital/establishment/cathedral long since adapted to and defanged this tactic?
The violent protests have been much more productive for the protestors than marches.

I think the violent protests (burning and looting) were as damaging as they usually are. The difference this time around is the video of the killing of Floyd. We all could see it. All of it. The look on his eye throughout the entire killing. Also, the fact everyone has been locked inside for a couple of months. The amount of protestors, most of them peaceful, along with the continued video of police brutality towards unarmed protesters.

Though that's not to discount the questioning of whether peaceful protests are successful.

Burning down the police precinct and the days of violence that followed is what got the attention and led to (supposedly) dismantling the police force. Had people just taken up signs and blocked traffic like they always do, nothing would have happened.

Now that things are settling into another Occupy Wall Street movement, the wins will stop.

People will notice this.

Things are escalating because that's the only thing that can happen, and the RM crew will continue to bury their heads in the sand saying "this isn't happening this isn't happening".
