The only thing that slightly resembles Unthought Known in Lightning Bolt is the palm muted guitar work. Different key, different tempo, and different vibes (UK is more contemplative where LB is a bit more upbeat and rocking)
So yeah I never got the comparisons either. The vocal melodies are too different

Where is KD's review?
to sum up
based on one listen
some parts he liked in each song
overall didn't feel inspired. Not bad songs, but not compelling songs
Compelling. Yea, i like that word for these songs.
Although, I do think Getaway is fucking great.

He's a hardcore fan.
Probably waiting on the vinyl to arrive.

Yes, how silly of me to have some restraint and not seek out some garbage half leak. This band has disappointed for about a decade now, if things were going to be different this time around, the early returns would be reading a lot differently one would think.

I was actually thinking about this very subject of songs that sound like each other, I get that vibe from Grievance and Insignificance and even like Marker In The Sand and Big Wavestip wrote:i think unthought known and lightning bolt may be the two most similar songs in the catalog!
Not so much LB and UK as for some reason I am not really hearing the similarities beyond a palm muted guitar thing and Ed's vocals being up front but obviously a lot of people hear it so it may just be me lol

The real problem is that Eddie only knows a handful of guitar chords....BobSacremento wrote:The only thing that slightly resembles Unthought Known in Lightning Bolt is the palm muted guitar work. LB and UK might sound superficially similar, but they're both similar to Wishlist if you're talking about palm-muted guitar, and so was Love Boat Captain. I also think Insignificance is very like Grievance. So are the titles.

you need to rely so much on what other people say and think? Have your own opinion for fucks sake. You've made it your shtick that you have to hate it without even hearing it and seek support in every negative post you can find. I'll be the first to say I like new songs. Mary Had A Little Lamb is a bit like Creeping Death. They're both songs.

I haven't listened to the leak. Maybe if it was obvious these songs were killer I would seek it out. I for one, feel like you guys are doing yourselves a pretty big disservice listening to a couple leaked tracks before the album is released in only a month.Lounge Lizard wrote:you need to rely so much on what other people say and think? Again, if I end up liking the songs, I will gladly tell you guys all about it. But sometimes you can see the writing on the wall...
