Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I don't know what's more obviously happening, but it's one of two things, possibly both going on in different people:
1) Some people are realising they don't like PJ anymore.
2) Some people are realising they were always just a rock band and any 'experimental' or indie street-cred was wholly imagined aside from a few novelty songs dotted around the albums.

Right. Be very careful not to like something that some internet shmucks tell you not to. Geez...verb_to_trust wrote: I'll be the first to say I like new songs. But based on everything that is being said, I would be shocked if I am impressed.

How fucking dense are you really? He's not complaining about the songs, he's just talking about expectations. Expectations about songs usually precede hearing said songs. Might sound crazy but that's how it works.dimejinky99 wrote:Juvenal wrote:Silly you, dime, for imagining he had listened to the songs before forming an opinion!verb_to_trust wrote:I haven't listened to the "leak", dimebagdimejinky99 wrote:verb_to_trust wrote:Strat not reverting back to full on fanboi Strat combines nicely with the KD review in reinforcing my complete and utter lack of any expectations for this record.

No way. Pearl jam were not "just a rock band". If they were, none of us would be hear wasting our fucking time talking for 700 pages about an album that we haven't heard yet...
and i still like pearl jam.

From the same curmudgeons who moan about the new stuff. I did not go ape shit over those two songs and I've only listened to them about three times, in spite of the fact I like them. I don't like them as much as I like these. CC is actually incredibly boring until halfway through. You loved them because they represented old PJ, and all the same people who loved them for that reason, hate this stuff. It's nothing short of predictable.verb_to_trust wrote:Think back to when Cold Cofession and Let it Ride leaked........totally different reaction.

'Just a rock band' isn't an insult unless you take it as one. They were absolutely a rock band, but they were a rock band we fucking loved and effectively sold our souls to.Strat wrote:harmless wrote:I don't know what's more obviously happening, but it's one of two things, possibly both going on in different people:

those tracks were from 2 albums ago and from a period where most people hate....and consider standard modern Pearl Jam.
Those songs take chances....

Maybe people just don't like these songs. Maybe there's not this weird bias that's coloring their approach to new material. Sometimes the easiest explanation is the right one.harmless wrote: 'Just a rock band' isn't an insult unless you take it as one. And you also like Everything by NIN. Nothing against you, or Stip, ect. But I've been around this forum long enough to know if certain people are really excited i'm probably not going to be that into it.harmless wrote:From the same curmudgeons who moan about the new stuff. It was 7 years ago, at least. Not vintage PJ but old? Yeah. CC takes chances? It takes the chance of changing to a new chord structure half way through, like 'Fatal' did, if that's what you mean.Strat wrote:"Old Pj"harmless wrote:From the same curmudgeons who moan about the new stuff. 1) I still like a lot of Pearl Jam songs, and thus the band, just very very little recently.
2) those things are not wholly imagined.
