Could the police no longer be provided guns by the force itself? Instead if a policeman wishes to carry a gun they do so as a normal citizen, under normal laws. So if they then choose to use their firearm as part of their job they would need to be as justified as any other normal citizen in its use?

While black Americans absolutely do commit violent crimes at a much higher rate, you should really consider the possibility of "why" and that all of this is connected. Systemic racism, poverty, crime, policing... these are all factors that amplify each other and make up the shitstorm the country finds itself in today. Trying, as many of your recent posts do, to reduce it to just "more crime = more police contact = more deaths" ignores a lot, if not the majority, of what has been going on for centuries to the black community.

When there was all the looting during protests, a Representative in Chicago got a notification that his office had been broken into. When he looked at the security footage, it was 13 police officers shirking their duty, drinking his coffee and napping in his office.

I've yet to see cops assigned to protect people from looters or rioters. They were probably taking a break from gassing protestors.

This still makes me laugh.

I feel like members of the NYPD publicly and noisily accusing a bunch of fast food workers of trying to murder them by putting bleach in their food, and then the NYPD later actually investigating it and saying “lol never mind,” is just raw evidence that these people aren’t prepared to evaluate and respond to rapidly unfolding events while armed.

They accused those people of trying to take cops’ lives without any looking into it at all. Their union shared the address of the location with its followers on social media. And then, after that, they went looking to see if it was true. Cops shouldn’t be doing anything that can be described as “jumping the gun.”

What an enormous dick this policeman is. It's an big problem if police (a) can indeed drag you from your car for no reason they are willing to specify and (b) so effectively escalate a situation rather than maintaining the peace wherever possible.

You never know what the cop is thinking or if he's even sane. Obeying is your best option.

I'm not really on the driver's side on that video. A cop doesn't just ask you to get out of the car. He was surely a dick to the cop before starting the video.
