Great, But Difficult to Rank because I was a kid when I first heard them.
-Vs.
-Ten
I really like this, but it's just their ninth best album
-Avocado
Has it's moments if you cherry pick them, but as a whole easily the worst era of the band's live recording

Nine wonderful albums and two stinkers.PHATJ wrote:My Current Favorites

Feeling everything about these albums. Everything. The artwork, reading the lyrics, following along with the booklet as the album progresses, musical fucking genius, these two albums feel similarly superior to me, and I absolutely love them both.
The Undeniable Classics
Ten
Vs.
Vitalogy
These three are absolute classics for a reason. Wherever you rank them amongst your favorites, everyone agrees they are staples and classics, not just for PJ, but for classic rock.
Awesome Albums, Amongst the Best
No Code
Yield
Riot Act
Creativity in spades. Classics in their own right. An argument can be legitimately made these are top albums. We’re eight albums deep folks.![]()

Good Album, Awful Production
Avocado
The songs are there for a pretty damn good PJ album, but it sounds like shit on the record. Every single song was better live.
Please Ignore

Re: RANK THE ALBUMS
Feel like I can do this now Gigaton has fully sunk in...
STONE COLD CLASSICS.
-NO CODE. Peak Pearl Jam - incredibly songwriting, pushing boundaries, urgent and vital sounding - no middle age droop on show. A beautiful, gorgeous mess of a record.
-VITALOGY. Timeless and perfect - just get rid of Stupid Mop, and you could swap this with NO CODE any time.
-VS. Slightly less dated than Ten, and the whole thing has more clarity, not to mention, rocks harder. A ferocious snarl nipping at your heels.
-TEN. Singular in every sense. Nothing else sounds like it, for better or worse. One hell of an opening statement.
REALLY GREAT ROCK MUSIC FOR ADULTS.
-YIELD. A disappointingly straight forward rock album after the bombast of No Code - but the quality of songwriting is still peak Pearl Jam, even if the execution is a little ordinary.
-GIGATON. Yup. It's this good. This is what growing old gracefully sounds like. The first essential PJ record for years.
-BINAURAL. The luxurious leather armchair of PJ records. Comfy and cosy, but can be a little sticky sometimes. The high's are worth it though.
-RIOT ACT. To me, Riot Act is Binaural - but too long. Shave this down to 10 or 11 songs and you get a great little inventive PJ record.
FUN MIDDLE AGED ROCK MUSIC.
-BACKSPACER. Summer BBQ rock music for Dads everywhere!
-LIGHTNING BOLT. Plasticy pop rock try-hard by numbers rock music.
STRAIGHT IN THE BIN.
-AVOCADO. I've tried so many times to not hate this record. The different mixes, re-ordering the record, playing it in the car, on vinyl, on headphones. It's just hideous. There are potential ideas of good songs, ruined by terrible production (both mixes) grating Eddie vocals and a vibe that screams WE'RE STILL RELEVANT, HONEST!! I'd take Come Back & Inside Job, and take the rest to the trash...
