I'm referring to Joe moving all of my posts into this thread and then posting that quote of yours.

No. It's about your fear of me. It's about your unfair name-calling, bad faith, and misrepresentation of my actual views.wease wrote:Isn’t it ALL about him?Mickey wrote:If you're referring to this post, I actually meant that Bi_ should take his "woke scare" paranoia to the SJW thread, but it is interesting that you projected yourself into a discussion about white fragility that wasn't about you.tree_ wrote:LOL

You were derailing that thread. I moved your bullshit propaganda video to this thread where it belongs. I quoted Mickey's post as a reminder to everyone to keep threads on topic.

As if you even dared to listen to one second of it. It has everything to do with BLM and it's on point. I bet you'd agree with almost all of it.

You know, I really can't fathom what would make someone think you guys have a bit of a persecution complex.

Yikes. I imagine the student body at FSU leans considerably more liberal than Ol' Miss. We definitely send a ton of kids from South Florida up there, anyway. It's probably the alums and people who live in and around Tally that will make the bigger stink.Mickey wrote:The original image link is broken, but here's a stable one:Mickey wrote:That's actually the second mascot change, which happened a few years after I left. The first one was the switch from Col. Reb to Rebel Black Bear, which did not go over well. The gas station near my house sold not this exact shirt but a variation on the theme and, well...
That same year some undergrads put a noose around the James Meredith statue (first black student), and though it wasn't articulated as part of the mascot issue it definitely came from the same atmosphere. And of course there's the ongoing state flag debate, calls for the Confederate monuments to come down (which I believe just happened today, actually), renaming streets on campus that are currently named after big slaveowners, etc. FSU doesn't have quite the same campus culture, and the mascot isn't an articulation of white identity, so I don't think it will be nearly as bad, but it will definitely get nasty.

Fair enough, we'll allow a carveout; if you're on the Pearl Jam message board Red Mosquito, you have reason to feel persecuted. Although we're all arguing politics on the Pearl Jam message board Red Mosquito, so maybe we all deserve persecution.Mickey wrote:To be fair we are currently persecuting him.

Re: tree_Maybe Wants to Talk About Systematic Racism in the
Think about how patronizing that is. White people are agents. They can be bad, they can be evil, they can be racist, or they can be prevailed upon to be better. And black peoples' condition is completely dependent upon whether they are prevailed upon or not. Whether we can somehow reach their conscience. But black people are somehow not agents at all. And can't change and can't be prevailed upon to behave in better or worse ways. White people move first and we just react. That's incredible to me. That's not how I saw black life in my own. It's never been how I thought of my own situation.
It's a very radical claim. And I mean radical in the sense that the vast majority of black people, on its face wouldn't view themselves that way, or anyone they know that way. It's the kind of claim that I think you can only really believe if you're hyper-educated. And I don't mean to say that there are no non-professors who buy into this world view. But it's very counter-intuitive. It is a kind of picture of like, black people as a collective weather vane. And what direction we're pointing is just a consequence of which way the wind is blowing. And the wind is white people.
And they can choose which way they blow. It's extraordinary.

tree is determined to find every single way someone can say "black people are responsible for overcoming the sins of our past, and are holding themselves down."
