Re: Election 2020
Standard timeline. He's vetting. He's talking to prospects. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't give a shit about any of the narratives out there. He's not going to pick someone because they are some group of voters or another. He's going to pick the person he gets along with and can work with for four years.

Re: Election 2020
Idk, could be criticized as pandering. Trump's numbers are cratering right now anyway so why waste a potential VP-announcement bump when he doesn't need it/it gets lost in the noise anyway? The less Biden is in the news, the better. I don't see any reason he'd want to start the general election cycle any earlier than he has to. Announcing a POC running mate early and during BLM protests would kinda reek of desperation, wouldn't it?tragabigzanda wrote:What’s your rationale? His naming a POC running mate would be a slam dunk right now, so I’m just wondering if there’s isn’t a reason for his not doing that

Re: Election 2020
This is what happened with the Bernie debate; everyone tried to push this narrative that Biden was so far gone he's pretty much incapable of speaking, that he has such a low bar all he really needs to do is come out and put a coherent sentence together.Rob wrote:Yea that'll definitely work, until 5 minutes in when Trump explains to us all that we'd be corona-free if we stopped testing people for it (followed by 2 more hours of nonsense).Bi_3 wrote:Given Joe's mental issues, this strategy might work.cutuphalfdead wrote:Hmmm, maybe we should have some debates.McParadigm wrote:If you’re the Trump team, and for nearly 4 months you’ve watched your numbers cratering, and you’ve been telling yourself that the rallies will bring back the energy and the pomp and the sense of flexed might...what do you do now? The worst thing that could happen would be for you to plan more rallies, and have them turn out like this one.
They’ve been saying “wait until we get the rallies going” for months. Now they must be scared to schedule more.

Re: Election 2020
Didn't he already say he'd announce around August 1?
I think 4/5 has it right. Let Trump self destruct a little more, no point in trying to make a splash right now.

Re: Election 2020
The timetable is consistent with the last decade plus (I looked back to 1988 and I couldn't find a running mate announcement from either major party earlier than July 6th), at least. It's fun for us and the media to speculate on narratives but I just don't think they're a big factor in Biden's decision. The optics/storylines aren't as important as who he best believes he can work with. And the vetting process takes a long time. I'm sure he feels pretty fucking good that the primary ended (for all intents and purposes) as quickly as it did.
PSA has talked about this a lot over the past few weeks. I'm really looking forward to Pfiefer's spin-off, mini-series about this topic. I think it'll enlighten the general public on how this process actually works, since it's something that most of us are largely ignorant about.

Re: Election 2020
We should be able to change our vote in the poll.
I no longer think that Trump will be re-elected and I would be surprised if 4 of the other 6 votes do either.

Yeah really tired of the 'Collins might go against Trump' narrative. That bitch is balls-deep in this Administration.
