Wanted to run outside, but the wife is sick and she really needed a break, so I took the older kids to the gym with me. About half-way there I realized I pretty much hadn't eaten anything the entire day. Luckily, I always stash energy gels in my glove box, so I downed two of them before the run. Created a Bat for Lashes running playlist and off I went. Ran sub-7s for the first 5 miles, then started to struggle. No finishing sprint, just terribleness.
I have a fairly nasty 14-miler (about 4,000 feet in elevation change) I'm suppose to do with a friend this weekend. Looks like I'll either be embarrassing myself or getting (cough, cough!) sick.

That is one of the better posts I've ever read.

Yeah, but this post is funnier than anything I have ever posted... and in the end, will people remember some douche that could run sub-7s or the guy that made them laugh...daft twat wrote:holy shit, dude, you're a conundrum. you run 10 miles in an hour and 15 minutes and refer to it as "terribleness." this, coupled with your location, which says, "in a dark place" led me to believe you were in africa. but you have a gym membership and a glove box, which i assume is part of a car, so that's probably not right. based on your posts, the only way i see you embarrassing yourself during your 14-miler (that's what i call them too) is if you shit down your legs. you are the champion of this thread, and i'd be lying if i said i didn't incredulously think of some of your posts when my gray balls are slamming against my thighs as i run 3 sub-9s on a treadmill between and elderly man i don't know and a large-breasted woman (who i sometimes fuck) at the Y.turned2black wrote:10 miles in 75 minutes

Struggled after just one day off
i tried to pick up the speed to 6mph and could only get to a half mile before slowing to a walk, then tried to go 5 mph and could only go another 2 tenths of a mile, so i just walked the rest of the 20 minutes and got to 1.35 miles

Finally got out in the cold again. Did 8.5 miles. And it felt great. I did stairs yesterday, but it's not the same. I missed the stride. My body loved actually running again.

When I started, it was only a way to spend time with my wife. She's a big runner. After seeing runners finish the marathon and walk around NYC in 2006, she decided she wanted to do it, too. She's got three marathons under her belt now. Would have four, bu they canceled this year's marathon.
Anyway, she was running a lot and I missed her. So I decided it would be a good way to spend time with her. Getting fit and healthy was just an added bonus. But I hated it at first. HATED it. I've been running now for just under three years and it wasn't until the last six or seven months that I started to feel that pull, that enjoyment, that need to do it.
Stay at it. You'll get there. But it's hard work.

For me, it didn't even get comfortable (let alone enjoyable) until I could do 3 or 4 with regularity.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:I know its still way early for me, so i know a lot of what i don't like is the fact that it hurts before i make to the half mile markdurdencommatyler wrote:I bet you'll get there.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:I wish i could get to the point that i actually liked running, right now im motivated by trying to get healthy and by having a lot of new music to listen to, but i don't enjoy the running at alldurdencommatyler wrote:Finally got out in the cold again. Re: The Work-Out Thread
I did a lot of running on the treadmill a few years ago, and only got around 2 miles, but it was because id get kinda bored and wanna quit, but a few good playlists should fix that issue. So im hoping in a few months ill still be keeping at it, plus in the warmer weather we will get back to bike ridingdurdencommatyler wrote:For me, it didn't even get comfortable (let alone enjoyable) until I could do 3 or 4 with regularity.Dr. A comfortable 4 miles at 27 minutes even. Gonna do a nice outdoor long run in the cold tomorrow. Strangely, it is what I have been looking forward to all week...

Definitely get your work done, but there will always be something to keep you from doing it, you just need to make timecutuphalfdead wrote:I aint starting shit until I'm done with this bullshit at work.Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:Start tomorrow, 10 to 20 minutes will make a huge difference in how you feel, I've already got so much more energy after 5 dayscutuphalfdead wrote:I've been saying that I'm going to start running since like October.
