What a gorgeous bridge this song has.

This song gets better with every listen, really loving the last verse where Eddie gets in his upper register and really lifts the piece.

Does anyone think this song could end on "drown" and skip the last bit?

I like how in the intro of this, different guitars come in and out again in different bars. I bet that was done on computer...

I just feel that the song is so happy, and yet it ends on a bit of a... not quite a downer but hmm...stip wrote:no. the last bit is great. strong lyrics and it reminds me of how tremor christ endsJuvenal wrote:Does anyone think this song could end on "drown" and skip the last bit?

Initially I thought it ended really abruptly, first listen I was like "oh...is that it?" but I guess it makes it a little more profoundstip wrote:no. the last bit is great. strong lyrics and it reminds me of how tremor christ endsJuvenal wrote:Does anyone think this song could end on "drown" and skip the last bit?

Re: Swallowed Whole
I'm probably wrong, but in my little drunken haze I was thinking "oh" when it ended.

It's mighty confusing that of all these songs, this is the song that gets to end properly rather than fading out.

I mean, you know, fadeouts on LB and LTRP but not this one? Pfft.Juvenal wrote:Yes. Fuck fade outsharmless wrote:It's mighty confusing that of all these songs, this is the song that gets to end properly rather than fading out.

Fade outs have their place if used well. Sometimes they are necessary due to flubs or to help flow.
I have only used fade outs twice and both were planned. But only one was truly necessary and it enhanced the whole CD.

The bridge feels like it's a bit of a mess to me right now in terms of the progression, but I love the way Ed's melody heads into the solo.

Re: Swallowed Whole
agreed. this is probably my second favorite of the new tracks (third overall behind LB and MYM), but the bridge is probably the part of the song I like the least. Everything here is growing on me, though

This is my favorite Lightning Bolt track so far. I like the folk-rock-by-way-of-Murmur arpeggiated feel to it.PHATJ wrote:I don't get it either. I mean, it's not horrible..., I just... Yeah, I don't quite get it yet.Strat wrote:I dont get this song yet....

1st half of this track: Wow, another Miller-Boyett sitcom theme song. I wonder what lesson about life the teens will learn today! Pick yourself up when you fall down?!?
2nd had of this track: OK this might be enjoyable live
There is a positive 1.0 correlation between the fact that the 2nd half of this track results feelings of pleasure and the fact that Ed actually doesn't say anything for a portion of the song and lets a guitar make notes on its own!
