yeah lmao, there are only 4 countries with more confirmed cases per capita than us and 2 of them are microstates with allegedly no active cases anymore (san marino & the vatican city lol). I haven't left the house in weeks and I'm definitely in a better position than other people but it's pretty disheartening stuff.

No im currently living with my brother, we're both students so we don't really have to go outside other than for groceries. Also while my region is the second most infected area, it's still a much less concentrated situation than Santiago (and less populated too).

My parents could be at risk but they're in a rather isolated town so the chances of them getting it is rather low. Now I do have family (siblings) in downtown Santiago which worries me a bit more, but so far I don't have any close ones who have been greatly affected by this, thankfully.

That's what I was thinking when "double digits" and "only 500 today" etc was mentioned just before. I too am thankful for the 400-500 each DAY as opposed to the 1,000+

but wow, all it takes for most circles of your life to be seriously affected is "1", so to see these numbers and knowing what each 1 of them means is staggering.

I looked up Chile coronavirus and one article was about a hospital in Santiago that is allowing dying patients to say their last goodbyes to family. Omg, so incredibly sad that so many people are dying.alone.

This hospital is doing it right, apparently all you need is the right equipment, enough PPE to make it safely possible.

That kind of compassion compared with the crazies screaming "no masks" in Florida is ... I don't know what it is

The world reached 10 million cases and 500 thousand deaths both on the same day today

10 million is nothing. Even in America that's just a sliver of the total population.

real talk: is requiring U.S. citizens to wear masks unconstitutional?

Went for a boat ride with our quarantine buds tonight. Based on the number of people I saw at beaches, parks and waterfront bars, Wisconsin will be Florida by Labor day.

i think Florida's problem is more because they have kept their indoor facilities open without mitigation - bars, restaurants, stores - and less about whether people outdoors enjoy their lives on this planet without feeling constricted by the latest crypto-authoritarian progressive shame-based social engineering initiative

exactly - if you are outside at a beach, park, or waterfront bar - you probably don't need a mask. it's low risk transmission environment. but the leftist internet white saviour brigade will shame you and call you ignorant if you dont

Although that article headline says that there have not been spikes in those cities with protests-- the reason for it is the great offset of people who stayed home because of the civil unrest....

Also the article says that indoor transmission is much more likely than transmission in open air...unless of course everyone around you is gagging and retching on you because they've been tear-gassed. :|

From a personal perspective , Florida heat is unbearable in the summer months which = more indoor events/activities than you would think if you didn't live there. More indoor activities = the more likely culprit than the beaches.
