That's what's holding me in

I love them too much to just sorta slam the door...
How happy would you be with these 4/5 if they turn out to be connective tissue?
This depends entirely on what they are connecting.
Totally.
This has been (assuming the other half of the record has a different feel) an interesting exercise in the potential dangers of only listening to half of a finished product
Very much so. For that reason I'm *really* pleased I like these so much.

Look at MYM -- a simple riff but it makes the song stand out... Even though it's punk (which I consider one of the more primitive sub genres of rock music), but it makes the song stand out!
Isn't getaway a riff driven song?
Yes, and I like it. But MYM is better/
MYM is a riff-driven song, but the riff is just passable.
Exactly, it's just passable. And it works!

Even flow is more danceable than all these songs.

Stone wrote let the records play
Im willing to bet cold hard monopoly money that stone wrote the bluesy parts of the song and either BoB suggested or ed just shoehorned that crap in the middle in.

What do you do to your Monopoly money?
I keep it in my meat freezer. Alongside the heads of my fallen enemies.

Getaway sounds like it could have been on Yield, frankly. And even the rip is shitty, the Matt's drums sound better than they have on previous albums, particularly the snare.

Sure but it does on the record and that's where it counts.

It also has balls, long haired flannel wearing hurr durr balls but they're there!

These songs have none, ill give MYM one because of the opening and the verses and getaway can have one because of the horny lizards. But that's it, 2 balls between about 6 songs now.

Just wanted to say that I still enjoy these songs a lot and that for some reason I imagine a younger Ed singing these songs. A weird mix of the old and young Ed especially in Getaway. The verses sound like the new Ed while the end of the song sounds so young. Is anyone else hearing it? Well, at least he sounds vitalized to me. I like that.

I could put 2 balls in the mouth of 6 songs from any album. FACT.

Regarding new Pearl Jam I often consider myself lucky that I couldn't care less about balls and riffs.
