Ghost Of Tsushima (July 17th, 2020)

Post by Revelator »

Figured this one deserved it's own thread. Not usually into the samurai games, but huge sucker for a good third person open worlder. This one looks gorgeous, too. There will be an 18 minute gameplay video on 14 May, 4pm ET on Playstation's State of Play Broadcast. Here are the official vids released thus far.

Pretty pumped to see more tomorrow considering how little we've seen.

I'm kind of shocked at how little we've seen of this game (marketing and game play) from Sony. Hate to use the word but it looks like another potential 'epic' franchise game similar to Horizon

Still a lot of questions about the combat mechanics, but this looks encouraging.

Agreed, I was puzzled how the combat will work exactly. Needless to say the game looks gorgeous and my God the music/score is shockingly good. I'm pumped

More interested in this than TLOU2.

My fear with all these late gen games is how poorly they’ll run on my base PS4.

Same here re TLOU2.

One thing that kind of concerns me though is how downgraded the graphics appear to be in the latest game play video, compared to the game play video showed in 2018. I'm hoping it's just a video quality issue, but I know developers have to make sacrifices through the development process. And I've no doubt this game (as well as TLOU2) will make some kind of 'remastered' appearance on the PS5.

Did you watch the State of Play 4k YouTube video? Much better than the streamed version.

I did, it did indeed look better than the live stream; however, I thought I could tell some noticeable graphical degradation compared to the game play video shown in 2018. I'll reserve judgement for the final product!

I feel like it's probably a good thing I'm not inclined to buy this one. I feel like I can only delve deeply into a story-heavy game once in a while these days. TLOU2 will have taken up that space for some time. Is there anything specifically about this one you guys are excited about? Nothing stands out to me.

I'm normally not into Samurai games, but I'm a huge sucker for solid third-person big ass sandbox games. This one looks gorgeous, soundtrack gorgeous and narrative appears promising. That's really about all for me, just looks like another great exclusive worth checking out. Though I do feel TLOU2 will wear me down a bit too when it's all over.

As long as it stays closer to the 30-40 hour mark for a narrative based, open world game I am there. The setting and gameplay look unique enough to make it standout.

Reviews are good, not great. Sounds like a beautiful world with engaging sword combat, but otherwise pretty by the numbers for the genre. I still plan to check it out.

Yup about what I expected after the last few previews. Still purchasing but probably finishing TLOU2 before I dive into Tsushima

Honestly still want to get this but will probably wait for a sale or something. The Japanese setting is what is pulling me in, and sounds like that is done well.

I'm hoping this is $30 or less on Black Friday. I'm waiting on this one.

started this last night.

Is it groundbreaking? No
Is it the best game of the year? No
Is it (so far) the best sandbox game I've ever played? No
Is it bad ass and all sorts of fun? Yes

It is so easy to jump in and play this game. Usually open worlds are a fuggin chore to acclimate (HUD, menu screens, up grade system, etc.) The developers took special care to make all of this super easy, probably my favorite takeaway after one night with the game. Combat is fun and doesn't feel overwhelming. Kind of like a cross between Spiderman and Sekiro. Main story so far is compelling. I've progressed the main story and opened up the map to start chosing my own path, but tinkered around only with side quests and those so far satisfying in that they are building out character attributes.

And its really pretty to look at.
