So leaving aside the fact that the young girl's shooting is no longer being associated with the protests (I checked multiple local news websites and not a single one describes the armed men as "protestors,--of course this could change as more evidence comes out but for now it seems best to move on from this specific example), you might be interested to know that a recent study about the protests estimated that there have been at least 4700 different events in which, collectively, 15 to 26 million people participated.

Just for those of us keeping score at home, that would mean you'd need 50 discrete instances of violence on innocent bystanders to even get a 1% figure, if we're judging each event as its own instance. But given how large and heterogeneous these protests are, it would probably make more sense, or it would be more persuasive, to argue based on total number of violent actors/radicals relative to overall group size in order to show that there really is a threat, either to bystanders or certain cherished ideals. So your magic number there would be anywhere from 150000 to 260000.

I was providing that additional support to the original story's implication that the shooters (they have determined it was two distinct shooters) were associated with the protests because protestors had setup the barricades that created the situation and had been congregated there for some time.

To your other point, you are making a distinction between protestor and rioter/looter, correct?

They say a passenger in the red Toyota got out and threw someone's scooter that had been left in the roadway. According to Bloomington police, a 29-year-old woman tried to intervene, walking in front of the car and putting her hands on the hood. The driver of the car then accelerated, with the woman ending up on the hood of the car. A 35-year-old man grabbed onto the side of the car as it pulled away.
