I think I'm missing something here. There is however more fridge space at my workspace because while headcount on site is the same, no one wants to used shared spaces. Is it too early to use the term "fomite-cuck"?
J/K, its a terrible idea, I just really need to get an appropriately sized insulated lunch bag.

We pretty much went remote in our city for a while - govt departments were telling staff they could work from home as much as they wanted etc - then the city cafes and businesses cried out that they needed people, so that all got reversed and everyone's back in the citysimple schoolboy wrote:I'm annoyed it took a pandemic to get the tech companies to go remote. The FAANG offices in my area exist in their own campuses with little interaction with neighboring commerce. I'm sure the once a week food trucks suffered, but almost everyone in their ecosystem is an employee or a contractor.Rangi Guy wrote:We pretty much went remote in our city for a while - govt departments were telling staff they could work from home as much as they wanted etc - then the city cafes and businesses cried out that they needed people, so that all got reversed and everyone's back in the citysimple schoolboy wrote:I'm annoyed it took a pandemic to get the tech companies to go remote. The campuses shut down, and everyone except for security and datacenter folx* went home. Maybe it affected local gas stations? The direct hires and contractors that were let go should've qualified for unemployement.

I know a few people in the games industry that got laid off, but most are working remotely. They don't want to go back to the office.

Sufficient vaccination can drive the R0 value to the point where the virus becomes manageable or, if we are lucky, recedes from the general population. I wonder if the vaccine will be released in the October timeframe as a surprise.
I don't want to turn into verb, but I'm pessimistic about the vaccine working. I'm pessimistic about the American population getting vaccinated. I'm pessimistic about the healthcare system delivering the vaccine.
I'm also worried that the vaccine will come out before the election, throw support to Trump, and then fail miserably, so that we end up with Trump AND Coronavirus for another 4 years.

This whole thing is absolutely, patently absurd. This guy is on the White House's own task force.

This, coupled with the administration ordering hospitals to bybass the CDC and report their COVID-19 data research directly to the White House is some deeply disturbing shit.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
can they even do that? And if the WH could order that, can't the hospitals just send a copy to the WH and also send a copy to CDC, like CC them on the email? It's not like the data can't be duplicated infinity times in this day and age.durdencommatyler wrote:This, coupled with the administration ordering hospitals to bybass the CDC and report their COVID-19 data research directly to the White House is some deeply disturbing shit.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
I'm not sure what mechanisms are in place. I'm sure there's ways to fight against it. But what counter measures does the administration have? The act itself, though, the order, is insane and super scary in and of itself. That the WH wants to deny the information and prohibit its spread should piss people the fuck off.blueviper wrote:can they even do that? Re: Anybody want a Corona?
At the State Health Department level, I can assure you that we would completely ignore that order and keep sending stuff to CDC. We MIGHT send a copy to the White House, but it's not like we have any mechanism for reporting information other than what the CDC gives us. I'd keep logging into whatever portal I'm supposed to be using and plugging info in.durdencommatyler wrote:I'm not sure what mechanisms are in place. I'm sure there's ways to fight against it.
