I was considering doing a discog listen to Mellencamp. There's a heap of early albums though. Should I bother with the whole lot or just do the American Fool through Big Daddy run?

I think you're on the right track. Maybe a quick review of the highlights from John Cougar and Nothin' Matters; I Need A Lover, Ain't Even Done With The Night,

I think the 1990's output is worth exploring. Some good songs on there, just a different sound.

I've been lucky to go to some good ones (or at least notable ones)....but MSG in 2003 and 2010 are both remarkable shows. Though the show wasn't up to that level, I did enjoy when I went to the second night of Alpine for PJ10.

Biggest regrets for shows missed
Absolutely Radiohead. Had numerous chances to see them (including in a small theater for a Hail to the Thief warm-up show), but missed them each time. I would say Tom Waits, but I don't really feel like I can regret it cause I don't see how I would have ever had the chance.

Things we do to keep the harmony, Lol. I did want to see Boyz ll Men though. - Funny story, the New Kids filmed a video for their song Thank you that night and my wife and I are in it.)

Wouldn't necessarily say it's a regret I missed it, but had, at the time, very hard to get tickets to see Rage Against the Machine 8.10.96 in Akron. Unfortunately my father passed away that day and obviously didn't make it to the show.

Bonnaroo 2002 - It's the closest thing to the original Woodstock our generation will ever see. An amazing weekend.

The Gorge 7/22/06 and 7/23/06 - Seen some amazing shows, but this one had it all. Capped off a 10 show year for me. Great performances, awesome Ed, stellar setlists, beautiful venue, and so many bucket list songs came our way that weekend.

Neil Young at Red Rocks (went back to NC to visit family) and PJ in Ottawa 2005. After 4 straight fire shows in Canada we went back to NC for a friends Wedding shower and it sounds like PJ might have peaked in Ottawa! We were having SO much fun in Canada.

Last night I went out to dinner with a friend's business associate, this guy who’s been working in the live music industry in the US for 30 years. According to him, the industry is completely fucked after COVID. And it's not just the obvious stuff like how everything from gear to renting a tour bus now costs 3 to 5 times more than it used to. He pointed out two major issues that are hitting even harder:

1. A key part of the touring machine is the crew. During the COVID lockdown, a huge chunk of that workforce either retired or changed careers. These were experienced professionals who had been doing it for years. Now there’s a massive skills deficit. You’ve got young people stepping into those roles, but with no one around to train them. So stuff breaks, mistakes happen, and all of that just snowballs into more and more costs.

2. Another less talked about issue is cultural/generational. During the lockdown, kids who were 14–16 never developed a habit or passion for seeing live music. Those are such formative years, and instead of going to shows, they stayed home playing video games with their friends. Now, those same kids, who would’ve once been fueling local scenes, aren’t going to shows, aren’t forming bands, and aren’t buying tickets. And with fewer people attending concerts, prices go up, which pushes even more people away.

I thought it was so interesting.

Still the first one (Salzburg 2000). A day in mid June with perfect weather, the stage was right in the center of the city next to the big dome (Residenzplatz). I know everybody has his favourite setlist, but from a performance standpoint this was so awesome and still holds up today. The 2 Vienna shows I saw (2006 and 2014) were excellent as well.

The QOTSA tour 2003. They played a show in Vienna which got rave reviews from fans and the press. Unfortuntely I didn't go. The biggest regret might be being too young to attend the Mirrorball Tour in Salzburg in 1995.
