You're an actual film guy so this kind of reductive nonsense is especially bothersome coming from you.VinylGuy wrote:VinylGuy wrote:cmon joe! Its a reboot of ANH.

If you're going to call The Force Awakens a reboot of A New Hope, then you have to call A New Hope a reboot of Flash Gordon.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

It's not a reboot, but it is a very lazy story.

I think JJ worked very hard to make sure that TFA wasn't accidentally too different from ANH.JuanHamm wrote:It's not a reboot, but it is a very lazy story.

Not a reboot, but it did borrow from FG.B wrote:If you're going to call The Force Awakens a reboot of A New Hope, then you have to call A New Hope a reboot of Flash Gordon.

Ok, ok ill try to be reductive. All my thoughts are pretty well documented on TFA thread. Of course its not a reboot.durdencommatyler wrote:You're an actual film guy so this kind of reductive nonsense is especially bothersome coming from you.VinylGuy wrote:VinylGuy wrote:cmon joe! You had a pretty big swing from first to second watch, though, Strat. So, I think you should definitely watch it again and see where you land.

Yeah, so give it one more go and see what happens. If it still feels flat, you can always turn it off.Strat wrote:I had so much fun eeing it in theaters, both times.durdencommatyler wrote:You had a pretty big swing from first to second watch, though, Strat. Late in the week for it but the latest meltdown about the rise of skywalker is that it’s all washed out in some oversaturated blue.
Can’t say I noticed apart from the scenes in palpatines temple
Twitter is a cesspit

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
OH my god i think i hate it even more with every watch.
Everything is so fucking convenient. Everything.
"we need this to happen so we'll put them here and then that will happen and then boom we're off to the next thing that needs to happen HEY STAR WARS FANS DID YOU SEE THAT EASTER EGG REVEAL? pretty cool eh?!?!??!?!!?!"!
Yea, i get that is how storytelling works but holy shit Its so goddamn convenient. Every single bit of dialogue and every single scene.
It feels so...amateurish? And almost a slap in the face with no respect for the intelligence of the audience.
Ugh. I am such a loyal fan with damn near everything in my life but i just can't get on board with this one.

While I love The Last Jedi, i now kind of wish Lucas wrote the story for this sequel trilogy and then left the screenplay and directing to someone else.
