I get that ignorance is the theme in this thread but please, shut the fuck up about joakim Noah.
I could give 2 shits about Noah. The theme I was going for, specifically in relation to yourself, was "airball".

Second Euro wave is just starting up.

With tourists all over the continent it'll be like the February ski-break x 1000.

Not allowing the CDC to testify on reopening schools seems like a great idea.

People who are refusing to wear a mask because they think their rights are being taken away are pussies and have no idea what it's like to really have rights taken away. Whiny pussies and I'm sick of it. Pretty sure I'm going to end up in an altercation in public soon.

Hope you don’t get shot or stabbed for your trouble as that’s how a lot of these mask confrontations have been going. Who knew fucking with strangers could be dangerous!

this is pretty difficult to watch

don't see how people can send little ones in back to school meanwhile offices remain closed or half-full

shameful

My thoughts exactly.

I'll be working from home and sending my kid to a full as before school? Well, at least what the school wants. I'm not so sure I'll be able to. I just wish it was the school making the informed decision, rather than me having to make a contrary decision and second-guessing myself.

My area has been a trickle, but all it takes is one flare up in any area school to throw that out the window, and then it's yes, poor kids who suffer because their parents and school administration couldn't instead protect them.

I realize it's tough decision but just saying "business as usual" is the easy way out. And probably will prove wrong decision..... It woukd be great if nothing comes of it. But it seems unlikely, doesn't it?

Also the state-wide decision to cut back restaurants and bars to 25% capacity was announced one day before the "all 100% back to school" was announced .WTAF is wrong with this picture ?!

....like, protect the careless people who want to congregate inside in bars , but fuck 100% of the kids . WTF??!

Kids shrug off the Rona. Sure, the internet has the outlier stories that will get shared, but kids don't die from this. If you want to make an argument against schools opening, focus on kids super spreading it to grandmas.

If typical American home life organized anything like Asian* American home life, there would be no need to open the schools. Pinoy or East Asian families tend to have grandparents in the home, so childcare is basically set.

My brother has two intact sets of in-laws (who reside in separate dwellings, 15-40 minutes away) whose assistance in childcare has gone close to zero, following pandemic guidelines.

We are breaking the economy largely to let Boomers do whatever they do. The cultural norms that suggest they should jet off to Florida at a certain age and that their children should abandon them in nursing homes a short time later are both terrible.

Multigenerational households could better support distance learning/ homeschooling. They don't really exist for a large swath of society, so we are dealing with the presumtion that Timmy will be in school M-F and then seeing and infecting Grandma on the weekend.

*are we capitalizing this despite white adjacency?

I presume Black American homelife is more multigenerational, but perhaps not in a way that supports childcare/ home schooling to the extent that both parents and one set of grandparents being present do.

You ar efree to have your parents and your partner’s parents live with you. I think you’ve done a poor job here advocating why others should as well. It comes across a little as being a conservative cultural zealot, scarily a lot like a religious zealot. “Life would be so much better if you all lived like me.”
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.

None of this is in the cards for anyone in my family.

I'm suggesting that IF society were structured this way, we would be far more resilient in a number of ways. Statistics on life outcomes bear this out.

We aren't doing this outside of certain minority/ religious groups, so we'll see those groups continue to do well, and apparently the rest of us will continue to muddle along, scratching our heads at these group differences.
