I guess it hinges on which one of you was able to follow dark chocolate's plot without the aid of wikipediaSimple Torture wrote:I also like dark chocolate. You don't agree that a show that features a character repeatedly stepping out of the diegesis to explain directly to the audience what's going on is "a bit didactic"? Also the final song might as well be called "This is What the Whole Play is About". It's cool, like I said, I love the show, but I think it holds the audience's hand the whole way through. Mostly I'm surprised that B found it hard to followdurdencommatyler wrote:I'm not sure I agree with you there. But I also love dark chocolate. It's long been established that I am not as smart as the majority of RMers.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I agree that it's weird that B found it hard to follow. But I don't think "didactic" is the right word, no. Some of it is a bit on the nose and a little melodramatic, but I'm not going to go so far as to say it's patronizing or has some sort of moral ulterior motive behind it.Jorge wrote:You don't agree that a show that features a character repeatedly stepping out of the diegesis to explain directly to the audience what's going on is "a bit didactic"? But I'm not going to take offense at your take. It's reasonable enough, I just disagree. But it's probably a semantic disagreement more than a contextual one.
