Musicals (film)
From the 1930s to the early 1950s is considered the golden era of the Hollywood musical, with stars like Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Gene Kelly and Judy Garland. Yet, movie musicals have continued to this day, with some true modern classics having arrived in the past two decades.
Here’s AFI’s 10 Greatest Musicals: Singin in the Rain (1952), West Side Story (1961), The Wizard of Oz (1939), The Sound of Music (1965), Cabaret (1972), Mary Poppins (1964), A Star is Born (1954), My Fair Lady (1964), An American in Paris (1951), and Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
What’s your favorites? Are you a fan of Hollywood musicals?
My mother loved them when I was growing up, so I saw quite a few.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Re: Musicals (film)
There are a ton of great movie musicals. I'm generally not a huge fan of the "Golden Age" Hollywood musical, though. There are exceptions. The Wizard of Oz is one of the greatest films of all time, I think. West Side Story, despite being problematic, is also great. But most of them are not very interesting to me. I much prefer the stranger/goofier/fringe (for lack of a better word right now) musicals to the big Golden Age ones.

The only ones I’ve ever actually enjoyed were Wizard of Oz and Little Shop of Horrors. As a general rule, I’m not a fan.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

Re: Musicals (film)
I grew up with Little Shop Of Horrors, and have watched Oz a million times. But Singin’ In The Rain is my favorite. The music scenes are flawless, and the chemistry between the cast is second to none.
