I have to agree. The more I listen to and love this song, the better the lyrics are. I was initially skeptical that they were any good at all, but most of that stemmed from Ed fucking up so many key lines at Wrigley. With this as the actual lyrics, I think they are very strong.guitar_davey wrote:PHATJ wrote:Here they are. I have made a few "corrections". I think this is accurate. "LIGHTNING BOLT"
she come on like a stone
but you don't know where from she was thrown
like a burning meteor
from miles high
looking for a place to land
She said have you got yourself some sand
And whatever you replied she took as yes
Now she comes after me
With her newly planted seeds
And soon you're thrown down on your knees
And then you dig
And then before you know
the weeds are obesely overgrown
With the all the wild seeds she sows
in your sleep
you gotta know you'll never let her go
she's a lightning bolt
lightning bolt
lightning bolt
Always something and never nothing
isn't that the way we're taught to be, to be
flipping through the worn out pages
and stages when you knew not who to be
until the lightning strike sets you free
you gotta know you'll never let her go
She's a lightning bolt
lightning bolt
lightning bolt
crashing stormy waves
erode her shoreline every day
until the castle of her ways turns to sand
she holds her love in breast
as her birds fall from the nest
flying towards the great northwest (yeah, yeah, yeah)
And with no repair in sight there is
No God with such might
As you open her world wide with subterfuge
And your death will soon arrive
As she finally decides
That all her problems, they won’t die with you
never let her go
Shes your lightning bolt
never let her go
She's true
she's your rock and roll
she's a lightning bolt
uncontrollable
like you
I think you're spot on with these. I don't care what anybody here says, that is a beautiful set of lyrics. Call them cheesy or whatever, but I've always believed Eddie has written what he truly feels, and that song is just full of incredible sentiment.

The more I listen to this (and I can't seem to stop), the more I think this could end up among the best ever PJ anthems. I get *that* feeling from this song, if that makes any sense.

Another thought--I get the sense that everyone is absolutely playing their asses off on this. Jeff's bassline on this is incredible and Mike's leads are terrific.

Is that warbly noise the "laser" everyone has been talking about?! That's definitely a guitar effect happening. There's a transition in Single Video Theory where you can hear the exact same type of effect.

The solo after the first chorus gives it a great lift.

Am I the only one who feels like this song is one of the closest things they've ever done to a Quadrophenia-type tune? Think in terms of the scope of the arrangement and the build up...

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
I love it, I already liked it a lot live.
When I first listened to this, I wasnt as sure about some arrangements (especially in the "Now she comes after me..." part) that made the song less rocking, but now I feel it really fits.
My favorite out of the leaked ones, but maybe it's just because I had listened to it before. (the live version)

Maybe actually, I didnt really felt that when I first listened to it, but now that you said it, the structure might be similar to some of Quadrophenia.guitar_davey wrote:Am I the only one who feels like this song is one of the closest things they've ever done to a Quadrophenia-type tune? This song is pretty kick ass. I just wish the beginning was better, from :28 onwards is great, not liking the UK intro.

One thing I like about the beginning, especially coming from the school of liking some rough edges to the production, is the way Matt creeps in a little behind Ed's guitar. It sounds human to me. I think you might even be able to hear him fiddling with the drums before he creeps in. Maybe it's just the shitty rip.

Don´t know why but that little snippet at the end of LB remind of this:
Bastard! Bastard! Bastard!
