You should stick those on the first page for easy reference like you have with all the other song threads.
if you quote them Ill take care of it tomorrow :)
Here they are. I have made a few "corrections". I think this is accurate. Let me know if anything looks off.

"LIGHTNING BOLT"

she come on like a stone
but you don't know where from she was thrown
like a burning meteor
from miles high

looking for a place to land
She said have you got yourself some sand
And whatever you replied she took as yes

Now she comes after me
With her newly planted seeds
And soon you're thrown down on your knees
And then you dig
And then before you know
the weeds are obesely overgrown
With the all the wild seeds she sows
in your sleep

you gotta know you'll never let her go
she's a lightning bolt
lightning bolt
lightning bolt

Always something and never nothing
isn't that the way we're taught to be, to be
flipping through the worn out pages
and stages when you knew not who to be
until the lightning strike sets you free

you gotta know you'll never let her go
She's a lightning bolt
lightning bolt
lightning bolt

crashing stormy waves
erode her shoreline every day
until the castle of her ways turns to sand

she holds her love in breast
as her birds fall from the nest
flying towards the great northwest (yeah, yeah, yeah)

And with no repair in sight there is
No God with such might
As you open her world wide with subterfuge
And your death will soon arrive
As she finally decides
That all her problems, they won’t die with you

never let her go
Shes your lightning bolt
never let her go
She's true

she's your rock and roll
she's a lightning bolt
uncontrollable
like you
no god with such might as TO open her world wide

I still keep hearing 'all the problems, they will die with you'. 'Won't' doesn't make sense considering the line preceding it. Ed just sings 'will' like 'wool'. Or maybe it's just me.

Is it 'and then you dig' or is it 'dead'?

I can make sense of they will and wont and I've heard it both ways so this will be a mystery until the liner notes , for me

It's definitely 'dead'. Why would weeds obesely overgrow you if you're digging? It's a "Full fathom five, my father lies", corpse on the seabed Sylvia Plath thing.

"Soon you're thrown down on your knees
And then you're dead.
Then before you know,
the weeds are obesely overgrown..."

(poem based on the Shakespeare "Full fathom five, my father lies... from The Tempest (?)")

Sylvia Plath -- Full Fathom Five

Old man, you surface seldom.
Then you come in with the tide's coming
When seas wash cold, foam-

Capped: white hair, white beard, far-flung,
A dragnet, rising, falling, as waves
Crest and trough. Miles long

Extend the radial sheaves
Of your spread hair, in which wrinkling skeins
Knotted, caught, survives

The old myth of orgins
Unimaginable. You float near
As kneeled ice-mountains

Of the north, to be steered clear
Of, not fathomed. All obscurity
Starts with a danger:

Your dangers are many. I
Cannot look much but your form suffers
Some strange injury

And seems to die: so vapors
Ravel to clearness on the dawn sea.
The muddy rumors

Of your burial move me
To half-believe: your reappearance
Proves rumors shallow,

For the archaic trenched lines
Of your grained face shed time in runnels:
Ages beat like rains

On the unbeaten channels
Of the ocean. Such sage humor and
Durance are whirlpools

To make away with the ground-
Work of the earth and the sky's ridgepole.
Waist down, you may wind

One labyrinthine tangle
To root deep among knuckles, shinbones,
Skulls. Inscrutable,

Below shoulders not once
Seen by any man who kept his head,
You defy questions;

You defy godhood.
I walk dry on your kingdom's border
Exiled to no good.

Your shelled bed I remember.
Father, this thick air is murderous.
I would breathe water.

I'm such a sucker for this song. :luv: I even begin to like the chorus. It's so much better than the live version.

I wonder if "My Father's Son" will have any of that seabed imagery, that would be cool.

:hooray:

I'm a huge Sylvia Plath fan, me. She gets far too much flack.

There's these rolling drums under one of the verses (I think?), I kinda like it, I think I'd prefer the song if it was under all the verses. Like rolling thunder.

the second verse before the first chorus. It's a very cool effect. I think they're there to pick the song up because the first verse is so unadorned. If they added them all the time though the song might not have the valleys that make the peaks worthwhile (The unthought known problem)

I see it being between this, Swallowed Whole and (perhaps) Sirens for the next single. This would sound good on the radio.

They echoing deep toms (I think that's what you're referring to) are repeated under the outro :)

Probably, I thought it would give it a weird in my tree tribal vibe

Yeah I think it's "loving", as in "nurturing".
