These songs have reduced me to a 15 year-old waiting for Christmas.

It's an unfortunate implant scar there, though.

Think I know what you mean. They could do a better job to. These songs arent even that long. I feel McCready should be shredding for way longer, like in Ten but Eddie kinda hogs the songs. Like at the end of Lightning Bolt live that jam session was awesome, I was a bit disappointed when there wasnt much of a solo at the end of it on the studio version, would of made the song that much better. They need to bring what they bring live to the studio.

Skimmed over the weekend's contribution to this thread. People get really upset about this band. I don't get it.

Also...

Oh don't worry, it's just a beef I have with modern-day live PJ. If you can't see it you're lucky. The Wrigley performance of this song was all over the place.

So, from what i can tell from my latest thread-skim is that nothing of importance has happened since these leaks and the announcement of the Thursday single. Is that correct?

Also, what is the current over/under on page count for this thread by the time LB is ready for download on 10/15?

I'll throw out 1200 to start.

That's great promotion from Pearl jam, obviously being a Seattle home game on Sunday Night Football they controlled the weather to promote Lightning Bolt. Big ups to Kelly Curtis and the PR arm of PJ. Creative.

Well, thanks to AlternativeNation.net, I've now been able to listen to all four leaked songs; I guess that site's good for something besides comedy. More listens have proven "Getaway" to be more interesting than my first impression, but I'd still call it middle of the road. I'm still enjoying "Lightning Bolt," nothing's changed on that end.

"Let the Records Play" is...different. I think something about it is off; it's either lacking in a unique "Pearl Jam" signature to elevate it above a generic blues song, or it needs to go further down that rabbit-hole to make a more authentic attempt at the style. Either one would make it better, I think.

I dig what they got going on in "Swallowed Whole." It's nothing spectacular, but there's something about the melody and some of the little vocal affectations that I find appealing.

At this point, I feel "Mind Your Manners" is the strongest studio take we've heard from LB so far. I really think they nailed it on that one. As the other songs are fairly good, I'm certainly looking forward to what the full album offers, while keeping my expectations appropriately tempered.

It seems to be a pejorative term around here.
see Brendan O' Brien conversations.
Somebody whose username I can't remember (the people who are down on this material are just blurring into one for me) insisted that he wouldn't classify anything here as "pop" because it didn't sound like Michael Jackson. There are people around here who are literally offended by the idea that PJ should be allowed to play pop music.
This is a hard argument to make for this band. Ten was an album written by top 40 standards of 1987 - 1990. I presume this does fit the definition of pop well enough. You don't sign with Epic records (and Epic records doesn't sign you) if you aren't pop/ top40 material. I don't want this post to pass as Ten dissing because it isn't. This has been the main criticism towards PJ by the "cool true grunge band's fans" and probably still is. They were considered the most mainstream and the less "grunge". With this premise trying to argue them sounding too pop/mainstream isn't particularly realistic in my opinion. It can be argued that the Vs. trough No Code was an attempt to be less mainstream though.

 And during Binaural and Riot Act, they just accepted where they were.
