God is an Astronaut are hands down better and more interesting than EITS. They are such a tremendous group, and they kick ass live.LetMeSleep wrote:These guys are good. Remind me of EITS.

Enjoying the Prince Avalanche soundtrack. It's super mellow and atmospheric for EITS. I dig it.

Re: Explosions In The Sky
I think I've decided that the first album is the best that these guys have done. For a long time, I awarded that honor to All of a Sudden, I Miss Everyone, but How Strange, Innocence has just been hitting the spot for me lately. It's pretty much perfectly sequenced and the songs are well put together without indulging some of the overly sweet sappiness of their later works.

It's definitely an interesting left turn for these guys. I'm happy to hear how well it turned out. I was pretty sure they didn't have it in them to do something different; I'm glad I was wrong.

Re: Explosions In The Sky
I've been listening to The Wilderness a lot lately.
Beautiful album. It mixes "electronic" touches with the chimey EitS sound, but also pushes them pretty far from their comfort zone. The crazy middle section of Logic of a Dream and the end of Colors in Space are amazing.
The Ecstatics and Disintegration Anxiety are also great.
Seems like every post-rock band does a math rock album and EitS did it pretty fucking well.

I don't hear any math rock in it, but I agree with the rest of what you're saying. I think it's pretty solidly my favorite EitS album now.

Some of the drums and time signature shifts seem math rocky to me.

Re: Explosions In The Sky
So the band is 20 years old this year, and they're doing a decent amount of touring to celebrate that. Supposedly they have announced "Part 1" of the dates, so there's probably more to be coming.
