Lol is that just a cover band that started making their own original tunes?

Lock this one mods.
Creed's first two albums have better guitar riffs than Pearl Jam entire catalog so in that vain, yes they got it wrong.

Tremonti is one of the best guitarists of his generation. I didn't think that was controversial. PJ is the better band by a healthy margin but in terms of guitar playing ,CREED (Tremonti) is better.
Really? I'll freely admit that I don't know shit about playing guitar and I probably like some Creed stuff more than most on the board, but I don't find Tremonti's riffs all that great. Lots of generic sounding distortion and power chords that fit right in with the other coattail-riding bands of the day. He's got some nice leads and melodies, though. Also, I think Creed was more interested in aping Metallica and early STP than Pearl Jam, though they obviously drew influence from them as well.

Tremonti is awful. No way that guy actually has much talent. Sure, he might have a fast right hand and heavy distortion and shredder, but no way.

Ugh.

Also, this conversation comes up somewhat regularly. I truly cannot think of another band or song that actually sounds like pearl jam.STP is the closest but thats it.

Pearl Jam are rather unique. The ripoffs, Creed etc.., took a super watered down version of what they thought a pearl jam song sounded like....

Pearl jam have always had a unique approach to the riffs, tunings, and approach to songwriting.

I agree. That combined with Ed's unique delivery and tone make covers of their songs always seem a bit off.

Bands generally only cover black and they play it incorrectly every single time because they miss the point of what pearl jam actually is.

Mosts artists fell in love with Ten and maybe Vs. And that influenced their guitar playing but then they move on or didnt look deeper.

Definitely.

Though I like to joke, the Black Circle dude does a much truer Ed impression than any of the “clone” bands from the 90 ever did.

So gotta respect that

Shut up wease.

They are beyond the 3-4 chord power rock emo songs that many of their ripoffs seemed to think they were.

Is this actually true? I know they use alternate tunings from time to time and have their experimental moments but it all seems to fall within the standard deviation for rock music

How about this - was there ever a song that sounded like Corduroy? It is a pretty straightforward song, but I could never find a song it may have drawn an influence from.
