I'm guessing the flash-forward at the start of episode 8 with Walt getting some weapons in that diner is definitely leading to a bigger than all hell showdown with the Brotherhood in the last episode.
So, does anyone remember if the car Walt had during the diner scene was the same one he pulled up in front of his house in episode 8?
Yeah it is. The two flashbacks are def. back-to-back scenes.

What a fantastic show. So so good. Walt's call to Skylar had my stomach in knots.

"You're the smartest guy I've ever met but you're so dumb that you don't realise he made his mind up 10 minutes ago." Bam.

My wife was like "Fuck you Walter White - Die! Die! Die!" and yet I'm all still "I feel for you Walt". He was never going to get out of this with his family intact but the way they handled it was magnificent - the stone-coldest mother fucker around and yet I still feel sorry for him.

And the fight with Skylar! Who didn't think Walt Jnr or Skylar was going to accidentally go down there?

That "Save WW" reminder was fantastic too platy. The scene at the start with the phone call and "first little lie" in the desert and the fading in and out was excellent. Compare to the phone call to Skylar later. Breaking Bad indeed.

Gotta watch again - so many great bits to this episode.

Bill Simmons always dedicates a half hour of his podcast every Monday morning to Breaking Bad discussion. It's the best.

He's okay. He has good taste in his pop culture. People also hate Jim Rome, but I'm okay with him too.

Bill Simmons knows his NBA and has good guests. Reason enough to listen to his podcasts.

After the knife fight, where he's all "We're a family dammit!", that shit made me think that Walt had not just broken bad but had actually gone over the edge.

I think it will be rescue, not kill. Somehow he will learn that "blue sky" is back on the market, maybe Lydia gets arrested her corporation's ties are revealed, and Walt realizes the Aryans must be keeping Jesse alive to cook. Having forever lost his real son, he goes to save his surrogate one.

Why rescue? He gave the nod to put Jesse down in the desert, I figure there's no love left there

It would take a huge turnaround for Walt to try and save Jesse now.

If anything, I can see Walt getting word that the blue meth is on the market again and his pride gets the best of him because it's "his" formula, and he just goes in to kill them all, Jesse included.

this makes sense to me.

last night, as a lay my head to sleep, i kept thinking of jesse, about to burn the house down, yelling at hank, "he can't keep getting away with this..."

i was also thinking today of an alternative storyline where gus gets lydia to get madrigal electromotive to negotiate the purchase of majority shareholder's position in grey matter. this way, gus, mike, jesse, and the white family all ride off into the sunset.

With the flashback in mind, do any of you think it's possible that Jesse will escape by using Walt's Red Phosphorous trick?

We were on partial lockdown today, so I didn't get to much of a chance to reflect on it, but...

I may retract this after tomorrow night's second viewing, and I don't watch the episodes previews, but it depends on how you view the final scenes. The phone conversation with Skylar was a multitude of things; rage at her betrayal in telling Walt Jr, anger for cutting him, a metaphor for his long standing issues with their marriage and his own failings, but it was also the last thing he could do for his family to make them hate him, blame him, end their ties, and try and give her a way out of jail. I would not be surprised if it was the last time they speak. I think hearing Holly speak was the equivalent of when he smelled Skylar's face cream in the first season, a reminder of what was good in his world.

His escape was as much removing himself as the contaminant, the "fly", in their world as running away with his loot. But he is free. He got away with it and has $11m to back him up for the last few months of his life. He's done with his family. Done with meth. Done with the Aryans. He is past the need to protect "his" formula. I see no reason for him to go back to tie up loose ends. That leads me to the flash forward scene where he makes the number out of bacon on his birthday, a re-enactment of a family tradition, suggests he continues to mourn his lost family. His family is gone from the house, likely into witness protection, and it's vandalized and left in ruins and Hank is dead. But there is still one person left: Jesse. The son he left in chains, a literal slave to the meth business, a fate worse than the death Walt blames Jesse for. A suicide run to free Jesse would be his last act in life. It's not redemption, it's alleviation of guilt, a selfish act. Like confessing infidelity to a priest but not your wife. I'm guessing it ends with Jesse killing Walt after Walt frees him as vengeance for Jane and Gale.
