California's public health officials neglected to update a certificate for their disease reporting site and so couldn't receive test results from Quest for 5 days or so.

State level director has stepped down. All of California's recent numbers are not accurate.

I must have missed Gavin Newsom's bloviating on this cluster. Good ol' one party rule.

At this stage it's just Auckland. No big loss....

Does suck though. Guess I'm gonna have to go and buy a mask now.

Just hope I can still go up north and see my parents next weekend

Sounds like all four cases are in one family, source of infection unknown.

Sounds like the governor of RI is going to push back the start of school by about 2-3 weeks or so. My wife and I had been waffling about what to do with our daughter (going into 2nd year pre-K), and as of a few days ago we had decided to send her. Part of our thought process was that we're already sending one of our sons to ABA (one-on-one education/therapy), and he's probably around 8-10 kids per day plus instructors, so if our daughter is in a stable pod of 15 kids plus 2-3 teachers, there's not much more chance of exposure. We felt pretty confident in this, and the delay would give us more time to feel comfortable with it.

Last night my wife got a text late from the ABA coordinator that my son couldn't come in today, because his direct instructor was going to be out. Ok, no big deal. Then today we get a text that he'll have a different instructor for a bit because his teacher is going to be out "for at least 2 weeks." Red flag, so we pressed for details. Turns out she's quarantining because she went to the beach on Sunday with someone who tested positive. Great! Just great.

Afaik, she was only exposed to someone after Friday (the last time my son was there), so we're not too concerned with exposure or having to quarantine ourselves. But this also means whoever she was with must have gotten a test late last week but still thought it was cool to head to Narragansett on Sunday. The only time we had people in our house tested, we hunkered down until the results came in--is that so fucking hard?

My partner's son is up and UNC Chapel Hill for his freshman year. He said it's all one big social hang out because most classes are virtual. They are all making bets as to when the school sends everyone home for the year.

We have reservations to camp at Burlingame with the 2 families we've been quarantining with on Labor Day weekend, but now you guys are on the covid naughty list, ugh...

Also, our school district did a survey and apparently 80+% responded that they'd be ready to send the kids back to school full time, which is the plan as of now. We start Sept 11. However, I have yet to talk to a single parent who believes this will go smoothly and we all expect to be back home within a month or so. Such a weird time.

Maybe the kid is an adult and wants to go to school with their friends?

Over the last month we've gotten pretty good access to testing here. Took the fam to get tested Saturday mid-day, clean results came back last night. That's quick for $20 PCR tests.

Yeah her son is 18. We tried to talk him into staying home. He is on scholarship, nothing we can do. He chose to go regardless of what we advised.

Not without that tuition money flowing in (fully aware the kid in question is on scholarship).
