It's going to be interesting that we're going to get two records full of non-political tunes. Wonder what the motivation is there...

...Says the guy who has 9000 posts on a rock band's message board. Anyway, why is it a conspiracy theory? Seems to be pretty legit fact - No political tunes on two albums during one Presidency. How's that not fact? Makes one, who doesn't have a kool-aid in one's straw, think "hmmm, that's odd.... I guess nothing political has happened since S/T was released that could be discussed?"

Whatever the answer here... I don't care and I guess it doesn't matter. I'd much prefer to have an album that doesn't talk politics anyway. I'm just pointing out the elephant in the room. Like Ed, you may just to ignore the elephant and would rather focus on other stuff. Fair enough... we're gonna get that.

Isn't it weird that this comment didn't include an assault on Ed's hypocritical politics? I mean... what changed? I guess when Obama got elected, the nemesis was gone for Ed. Then his new nemesis started taking shape (religious fanaticism). Realistically all I ask is that they write honest songs and whats true to them and they seem to do that with their various themes. Whatever is occupying Ed's brainspace the most at any given time.

I think we agree that we want him to write about what's true to him/them. My thing is: Just Breathe and The End were perfect for that, yet they get shat on here for some reason. Let's face it, Ed's over 50, writing about death and leaving your loved one's seems very "true". I'd argue Backspacer was "very true". Lots of people don't like that truth.

Basing an album on who's President, kinda doesn't. seem so "true". And when your guy gets in, writing about religious fanaticism (and completely ignoring all other issues) seems almost like a scape goating to me, that's all.

I can't disagree. Though I think the issue was purely Bush and his team and not necessarily 'politics'. I see that as a difference though I'm sure some don't.

Bush was terrible, but I think the issue would have been with any guy who wore the "R" label, personally.

First off, I think Ed is hot fire here. I like him when he sounds most engaged, and in that respect these songs recall his performances on Yield and Into the Wild. He obviously doesn't have the voice from '93 anymore, but his approach to these 4 songs is just right in my book. He doesn't get screamy either, which is a plus.

Backspacer had some political songs ...they were less obvious than Bushleaguer...But even a song like, lets say, Glorified G or WMA is political.

Mind your manners is political too...and seems a lot of what he is writing is hinted that way....
