"Corduroy" always sounded to me like a really loud folk song

Ugh.

Also, this conversation comes up somewhat regularly. I truly cannot think of another band or song that actually sounds like pearl jam.STP is the closest but thats it.

Pearl Jam are rather unique. The ripoffs, Creed etc.., took a super watered down version of what they thought a pearl jam song sounded like....

Pearl jam have always had a unique approach to the riffs, tunings, and approach to songwriting.
How about this - was there ever a song that sounded like Corduroy? It is a pretty straightforward song, but I could never find a song it may have drawn an influence from.
I hear some Rockin in the Free World in Corduroy.

I'm not a Creed fan by any means, although I did own the first two or three albums back in the day, but I don't know how anyone could defend songs like Amongst the Waves, Force of Nature or Infallible and still dismiss Creed out of hand. If you're looking for bland, middle of the road, radio friendly rock devoid of any personality, Creed has at least half a dozen songs better than those.

Creed’s first album is good.

The second album is also good with the exception of Arms Wide Open.

They had some good B-sides and soundtrack contributions also.

How many times did you blast "Arms Wide Open" when Griffey came back to Seattle?

These two tunes have some PJ vibes to my ears (musically - not in the singing)..

You aren’t worthy to own those drums after making statements like these.

The middle section of Run Thru by MMJ sounds just like the live Porch jams from '90-'92.

Gideon by MMJ sounds A LOT like one of the instrumentals from TB 2000.

If Scott Stapp hadn’t started oiling up his bare chest in music videos, you guys wouldn’t be talking so much smack about Creed.

Funnily enough You Are reminded me of when MTV was good in the 90s. The weird thing is that looking back on it, 2002 seems so close to the 90s now.

To answer the post, I can't think of any song that sounds like a Pearl Jam song before it. Even what I think of as "gishy songs" (basically, something in the mould of Snail), I think Pearl Jam's first were on Yield (Faithful, MFC, live versions of GTF). Inside Job reminds me of 70s maybe 80s Who, which again was before not after. What For by James was 80s when PJ weren't around as well.
So basically, Johnson and May spent Trump's presidency fighting each other over how best to sell the NHS to Trump.
