I personally believe the song to be about sweet F.A. It's one of those songs that has no idea what the fuck it is, but as much as it's about anything, it's about political and social action; being in it to win it and not backing down. Or some shit. You've said it yourself; things don't have to attack a president to be political.IlluminEddie wrote:harmless wrote:I'm not going to spoonfeed you, you can Google the lyrics. I could be swayed on Got Some. Not a chance on Supersonic. Anyway, what "political" is got some about then?
Supersonic has two or three lines you could take as metaphor around putting a ballot slip in a ballot box.
Backspacer was a light album that Ed wanted to be care-free and enjoyable, for the most part. So there isn't much politics, but he slips it in at points.
You can't spoonfeed me because the song's "message" is not political. It uses a few terms that are often used in political discourse, but the message is not political. If it is, prove otherwise.
Supersonic is not even remotely political and you're reaching to try to say it is.

I said about 2 or 3 on most albums are political. I don't see it on Backspacer at all, which to me, may be one reason why I like Backspacer.
My point is: Ed writes from a socio-political point of view most of the times. Even if he is clearly making a point ( wws/bushleaguer) or if the whole point is more subtext oriented.
He was more direct with his lyrics during the bush administration, perhaps because he felt it was worse than this one or the previous Clinton one...or because he felt he needed to be as direct as he could to get the message out there.
Also, I don't see a need for everyone to constantly harp on Bushleaguer as their political song. Look at Evenflow or Glorified G for other examples.
Yes, Mind Your Manners is about religion, not a political issue - like homelessness and how to deal with that. If Mind Your Manners was a political issue, there would be a policy-related to it. Welfare is the policy related to evenflow IMO.

Mike's vignette and Tangerine are as similar as two songs that have acoustic guitar.

So, you're saying the song has no message? Which is my point. To reiterate, there's not one song on Backspacer with a political message.
PJ has boatloads of political message songs. Not one on there. Probably none on LB either.

Tangerine.....great Zep song...one of their few songs that isnt played out
We could go on and on with many bands. Steve Miller's "The Stake" with Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way"...That "Hero" song featuring Matt on drums with Seal's "Kiss from the Rose"....Led Zeppelin's many songs with many other artists......and so on.............with the amount of music out there........it's going to happen.

Meh. If you can pinpoint anything that the song is "about"....and it's reaching to declare a song like that to be really "about" anything....it seems to be about music. You need a song? I've got some. But I need to know a few things: are you rising? Or falling? I need to know which song is going to best help you out. Maybe you're getting out of or away from something? Or you're angry? Tell me what kind of song you're in need of, cos I've got some.harmless wrote:It's a brief use of simple political metaphor inadvertently betraying Ed's stance about war and democracy.
