What movies are you watching?

Started Jurassic park (the original) the other night. First time in years. The intro sequence is way hokier than I remembered it, like straight B movie. But everything after that, at least up to when they deboard the Jeep to tend to the sick triceratops (this is as far as I got) is just absolutely masterful.

We are due to watch this since it's back on Netflix. I think that's what I love about 90s action movies though--they get really hokey with the looming threat but the writing/scene work is great. If I'm using a broad brush the opposite is true now--a richly imagined threat delivered through hokey bullshit and canned superhero dialogue.

But I watched Moana for the first time. It was good, not great. But the visuals were outstanding. What a beautiful looking film.

Just the other day I heard someone mention how gorgeous the animation; I should take a look.
Regarding Jurassic Park the original's effects have mostly held up in the last 27 years; the only fakey CGI I can think of off hand is a few panoramic shots. Of the early 90s movie to start using that technology I'd say only T2 has aged as well.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Oh, I have no opinion about Four Weddings. I've never seen it.
