Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
I've been on some other stuff lately. About time to spin this one again. I think it's been about two weeks since I've listened to anything from it.

This is where I’m at too.VinylGuy wrote:i think its their best since Binaural.
Also, while Binaural is better, Gigaton´s flow is great. I dont want to skip any of the songs.

The thing about Binaural is that I don't skip the last track, and I'll skip "River Cross" like 2 out of 3 times.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
Binaural has higher highs (nothing on Gigaton touches Sleight of Hand or Insignificance, for example) but it also has much lower lows.
I prefer Gigaton.

20 years in, I’ve come to believe that Binaural doesn’t have any lows.durdencommatyler wrote:Binaural has higher highs (nothing on Gigaton touches Sleight of Hand or Insignificance, for example) but it also has much lower lows.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
The sessions that produced Binaural are exceptional. I wish the album as delivered had the space of sound and willingness to play with overdubs and song structures that defines Gigaton, because it would have fit their ambitions. And obviously I wish Gigaton had some of Binaural’s qualities, as well.
I also don’t consider the track listing that came out of those sessions to be a best case scenario for the material they had or how the songs might have engaged with each other.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
I agree that Gigaton has a higher floor, but when I think about its ceiling, it is way the hell up there. The songs I love on it, I loooooooooooooove. We'll see if it stays this way over time, but currently for me Gigaton>Binaural.durdencommatyler wrote:Binaural has higher highs (nothing on Gigaton touches Sleight of Hand or Insignificance, for example) but it also has much lower lows.

Re: Gigaton: Official album thread
After it came out, this board was saying Lightning Bolt was better than Vitalogy. A poll was done on here that said Lightning Bolt was the best rock album of the past 30 years. I distinctly remember someone even saying that Lightning Bolt was so good that it nullified PJ's entire discography because it was deemed inadequate compared to the majesty of Lightning Bolt. Also remember that weird weekly thread where people would post videos of themselves worshipping a Lightning Bolt CD?
So forgive me if I take these "Gigaton is their best album since Binaural hurrr hurrrr hurrr" ramblings with a pinch of salt. In 6 months it'll be on a dumpster heap along with Lightning Bolt and Backspacer.
