It's a mid-tempo rock song with an acoustic guitar, so yeah in that sense it sounds like Oasis. But we have no idea what kind of cake-decorating it'll be covered with.

There are some moments in the strum pattern, and a few chord choices or hammer-ons that I could imagine someone connecting with Oasis.

Yup. Sorry for my freak-out by the way, McP. I don't think you were trying to say anything negative in retrospect.

I like the sound of what I have heard - usually means I probably won't like the record version.

I'd feel much better if :) Mirella :) came back on and reassured me that Sirens sounds nothing like Oasis ;)

True. Interesting how this is unthinkable to some people.

In the 90s I asked one of my dad's friends (guitarist) about what he thought of PJ, and he said he thought Ed sounded like shit and couldn't sing a note.

It won't - it only does at the moment due to being a single guitar being played 'live'.

We have to wait to see if it's political enough. Pretty sure it's safe to hate though.

I don't know it's unthinkable; it's just kind of a conversation non-starter. I mean, it's pretty much another way of saying, "that's your opinion, man." There's no doubt Ed's singing back then (and his singing in general) is a turnoff for people.

I'd certainly never say that either of those examples (now and Ten-era) are Ed at his best on record.

 yea, for sure... just trying to get the only person logged in right now who has heard this song to come back and tell us all how awesome Sirens is so that we can boost our expectations way too high... :luv:

It could be worse. Everyone else's description of it made me think we have another "Come Back" / "Just Breathe" dross-fest on our hands.

Not Mirella but i was at the listening party and i can assure you it sounds nothing like Oasis!
That said i did not really liked the song on first (and only) listen. But that means nothing. Usually those turn out to be the good songs!
But yeah my first impression was 80 power rock ballad

No, I already heard it and can wait until it leaks or until Thursday when it is released. And I hope to bridge the days with more 'vignettes' :)

groetjes,
Mirella :)

p.s.: I also still need my avatar and my old signature is not here either...

Was it a total cheesefest?
Also how much will it cost to get you to do a Doug rendition of this entire album?

Trust me, it does not sound like Oasis at all. And I have seen Oasis live too. In fact, I have gotten to dislike Oasis recently. I was always more a Blur girl ;).
It does not sound like Blur either.

groetjes,
Mirella :) (and I am not typing what evil enimmi next to me just said)

First Review of LB is in.......
http://www.clashmusic.com/features/albu ... tning-bolt

Track four, ‘Sirens’, is the first step into Pearl Jam’s refined acoustic territory. At its beginning there’s just Vedder with a single guitar, before McCready ups the track’s intensity and the vocals rise in unison. It’s an all-out affair.

And then, something completely different, as ‘Pendulum’ sounds unlike anything these men have recorded previously. It’s a bleak piece, reverbed guitar bringing a real sense of desolation to proceedings. A tambourine comes in, and an adagio bassline furthers the song’s atmospheric, experimental sound.
