Finished season 4 of my current rewatch last night. Not sure if I'm gonna move on to season 5 this time through.

Re: The Wire
I’m finally watching this. 3 episodes to go in season one. Can my inaugural viewing of this show save 2020? The answer might surprise you!

Re: The Wire
Just started season 4 of a rewatch in HD with my wife, who is seeing it for the first time. She loves it.
Also, I had forgotten how frequently funny this show could be.

David Simon appears to be a dick, but he's a pretty good twitter follow.

Re: The Wire
Have 7 eps left in season 5. This fake serial killer shit is real dumb. This has been a very enjoyable series to watch, but I don’t understand why so many lists have it at the top all time. That said, there are half a dozen characters at least - Omar, Bunk, Lester, Bubbs, Bodie, Dangelo - who are all-timers.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Re: The Wire
It's #1 on my list. Beyond the pure enjoyment factor that comes from the storylines, the writing, and the acting, I think it's highly regarded because of its commentary on social issues across multiple dimensions. I think it has less of an impact now than it did in the early aughts because we're currently living in a clusterfuck apocalypse that makes the issues of 2000-era Baltimore seem trivial in comparison.daft twat wrote:Have 7 eps left in season 5. Re: The Wire
FWIW it's one of the first TV shows to actively interrogate contemporary history rather than use it as window dressing/treat it as outside the world of the narrative.

Anyway, done.
Seeing Dukie shooting up in the alley during the final montage was fucked. Glad I watched this show. I rank the seasons 4, 2, 1, 3, 5.
