20 miles in 2:31
Wife and kids went to bed at 8. I hit the canals 10 minutes later. First half was 70 flat, but then I started to eat shit. Pretty much resorted to my ultra shuffle for the last 3 miles or so. Second half in 81. No finishing kick. Drank at every water fountain along the way. Decent little breeze to cool things down. 2 glasses of chocolate milk afterward. A "grunt it out" kind of run.

Re: The Work-Out Thread
Awesome workout this morning. I did my usual weight routine but it almost seemed easier. I felt good & energetic going in and no doubt that helped. I didn't feel like I already had a long day behind me which sometimes happens when I go after work. Days like that it seems I either struggle or just go through the motions.
Plus I did two miles in 24 minutes on the treadmill; an average of 5 mph which for that long is a lot for me. I kept a higher pace for the first 20 minutes and then during my cool down I saw that I close to the two mile mark so turned it back up for the last couple minutes. I beat the clock and finished with 2.02

2 miles in 14:30 + 4 3-mile hill repeats with ~4,400 feet of elevation gain in 1:48 + 2 miles in 16 minutes
Parked about 2 miles from the trailhead. It took 14:30 to get there, then did 4 repeats of the Siphon Draw Trail, which has an elevation gain of about 1,100 feet in about 3 miles. Took 1:48 for the repeats. Luckily the trail was dead, so I was able to kill the downs without sending people off a cliff. Encountered some bikers when I got back to my car.

5 miles in 31 minutes
Wife had a presentation to work on, so I took the kids to the gym. I decided to do some speed work. I was gonna do mile repeats, but felt so good after the first one, I decided to make it a 5-miler. Made it 4 miles before I had to slow things down. 6, 6, 6, 6, 7. Kinda bummed I couldn't squeeze out a final 6, but I'm still kinda tubby, so I'll take it.
Legs feel remarkably good considering the tough miles I put in this weekend.

What do your kids do when you bring them to the gym? Or is there a kids' area/daycare type of thing?turned2black wrote:5 miles in 31 minutes

Daycare. We pay a decent chunk for the "nice" gym, so they aren't wallowing in filth like some of the cheap places. They also have a low child-worker ratio.EJ wrote:What do your kids do when you bring them to the gym? Or is there a kids' area/daycare type of thing?turned2black wrote:5 miles in 31 minutes

Cool. Yeah, that's a great option to have and definitely worth the extra money. I was thinking you might be starting them on "speed work" already.turned2black wrote:Daycare. im sorry, how fucking barbaric are you. you shouldnt run without some kind of shoes and youre a horrible parent for letting your kid do so*
i cant even walk barefoot on my street without highstepping each pebble i step on. if i was a caveman and was getting chased by something id just fucking give up. running through woods with rocks and sticks just jabbing at my feet. fuck that!
*please note i dont think you are really a bad parent. your wife is for allowing that borish behaviour to carry on, but not you

If you were a caveman, you'd be the one doing the chasing and you'd have calluses about an inch thick, so you wouldn't feel a damn thing.Peeps wrote:im sorry, how fucking barbaric are you. you shouldnt run without some kind of shoes and youre a horrible parent for letting your kid do so*

My kids currently don't run much and if you'll notice, my son's actually running on a soft track in that pic.
