This is more or less how I felt.
It's a real beautiful-looking movie though

is it better than Midsommar? I do not get the acclaim for it at all

I love both cinematic motion pictures close to equally.

I love Nightcrawler but the music and some inconsistent tonal issues bring it down to about a B- for me.

The music would more fit something closer to a Friday Night Lights than a dark pycho-thriller like this.

Disagree. It follows Lou and his attitude perfectly. Very 80s dark synthy meets post rock.
Sound design is great for this.

Yeah, I can see that. I know what they were going for, I just disagree with that direction. The audience doesn't see the movie from his eyes, they see him as a deranged sociopath. That's the music the audience needs. Not what's in his head.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

It's just odd. It would be like if during Hannibal Lecter's scenes in SOTL, the music followed his "victories" and completely ignored how f'd up and evil he is. Discombobulating and unnecessary. Music should enhance and coincide with the audience's feelings, not clash with them, IMO.

That's kind of reductive. Music can do a lot more than that.

That's what I get from the music in the movie, though. It doesn't strike me as emotionally complex or fitting. More like one-dimensional and inappropriate.
