this is just advertising for BLM. Did BLM need advertising at this point in time? Is there anyone in America who does know what BLM means and what it generally stands for? Though as you said it doesn't have any unified goals or objectives.

Societal change movements famously achieve maximum branding exposure and then just sit around waiting to happen.

Or they grow and thrive on public showings of support which help to combat the opposing establishment narrative that they are fringe movements and not, in fact, popular.

I am not in the US but are you trying to tell me that BLM is seen as a fringe movement? It is certainly not depicted that way in any media I've come across.

This is an avenue I’d be curious to explore, not to make a point but to get some clarity for myself:

1. What is your impression, from the outside looking in, of what the republican party position is on BLM? This is a (broadly speaking) ruling party aiming for re-election. Would you describe their messaging as indicative of a recognition that the movement has majority support? Or would you say they more generally frame it as a problematic minority group?

2. Do American Conservative posters here...macphisto in particular...consider BLM to be a movement with a majority support in America?

1. I think it depends which Republican you speak to.

Trump is trash and thinks BLM is all about looting and rioting. I don't think he hears or cares about their message. He goes through life making others feel small in order to try and look/feel bigger.

The Republican party as a whole, I think they think BLM is a distraction from what matters, building a strong economy. An economy that favors the rich and does not care about inequality. They firmly believe in the all boats rising crap. They definitely downplay or ignore the lasting consequences of racism and systematic racism. They believe that defund the police, especially those voices in BLM who say defund the police means abolish the polish are nut jobs to be dismissed as nut jobs. They view the solution to BLM related rioting and looting is heavy handed application of law and order., not seeing that is just throwing gas on the fire. They bemoan the lack of respect for public institutions and police. They view systematic racism to not exist as there are not many if any blatantly racist laws. They are very nationalistic so they don't necessary equate "shit hole country" comments as racist as they view it about the country rather than the people.

Some individual Republicans probably do care about BLM and are not racist. I am sure they feel there voice is drowned out and do not feel encouraged to speak up at this time.

Democrats are viewed as concerned about the issue, maybe to an overriding extent, but that they are absolutely ineffective at making change. Obama having beers to resolve a minor incident while arming the police with para-military equipment.

I think huge strides were made between the 1950's and the 1970's and then things stagnated and rot set in. Teaching people to be color blind was admirable and best intentioned but it stopped there. That stoppage allowed rot to set in and that was evident in both parties. The crack down on welfare, the war on drugs and so much more. There is tons of change required and even properly implemented will take generations. Many of the issues aren't tied to race, such as social safety nets and public health care. There may be disparate impact but they are signs of an uncaring society. It's ridiculous to expect an uncaring society to care about BLM in a manner to exact change.

Actions can be terrible ideas without being criminal. His statement of purpose for being there was hopelessly naive. Responsible adults should keep their friends and family with undeveloped prefrontal cortexes far away from these sorts of protests, and this includes his attackers.

I would hope that state and local governments would stop abdicating their responsibility to maintain order to discourage this sort of activity.

That said, roof Korean type defense of property is 100% morally justified.
