The solo comes early. I'm not sure if one of these is the bridges, and the verses all feel a bit different from each other.

Well there's a chorus, some verses, and the occasional bridge so...

at the end? that's stone.stip wrote:i like how mike's solo comes in on the 'she's your rock and roll' line during the outro. that's exactly the kind of unselfconscious celebratory decision that should be made in a song like this.

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
I would say no. I'm a songwriter myself (let's use that term loosely) and I've been studying the hell out of this. To me, it goes verse/more energetic verse/chorus/solo/different vers/chorus/verse/outro that's a bit of an expanded verse...It seems to do a good job of using many variations/intensities of the verses.stip wrote:Does LB have a traditional song structure?

This song could be so much better if it weren't for the boring intro and an early fadeout that kills what could be a sweet jam. Everything in the middle is great.

So is it "you'll dig"? Because "your dig" doesn't make sense, and I don't think it's "you". Although knowing Ed, it could be yooooeeeeeuggggh.

This is Pj by numbers and I shouldn't like it but I really do.
Hope it stays up there for me.

PJ has always been a gamble, the numbers won't put you off if they make you feel lucky.

Re: New Song: Lightning Bolt
The more I listen, the more I think they added the 60s warbly thing, all the percussion (shaker, big groovy toms, that china in place of snare in the second verse and on) and the general angular groove, to bring it closer to 60s surf rock, Beach Boys etc. It's kind of that, filtered through a U2 rock anthem. If the song's inspiration started at the surf board, it makes sense. I can still see this song as the 90210 theme, or maybe a rebooted Baywatch

Yet it is way, way better than both those songs. And I like Force of Nature alright. Unthought is the dregs.Monkey_Driven wrote:This is totally the love child of Unthought Known and Force of Nature. I like it.
