Hi Burt, again, many posters have voiced opinions, pages have passed, and on and on.

By nature I’m a pacifist - maybe a pussy? - when it comes to guns. I believe people have the right to own a firearm, but it ends with assault weapons. That’s just absurd to me. Again, I’m a huge pussy. As a former service member myself, I never had point a gun at another human, and I’m grateful for that.

While I won’t pretend to know anything about this kid, I can tell you I had different things going on at 17. I didn’t have access to firearms, nor did I have the desire to. I don’t have anything to back up this kid being an instigator. But I did serve with people who were really hard up for guns and weaponry they affectionately referred to as toys. It was sickening. It is sickening. I just can’t get around him leaving his home state, obtaining a firearm, and showing up to a protest, solely for the purpose of peacekeeper. It just doesn’t sit well with me.

One of the two protesters allegedly slain by teen vigilante Kyle Rittenhouse in Kenosha, Wisconsin, this week confronted armed men shortly before he was killed, shouting, “Shoot me, n—a,” according to reports and video footage.

Soft a, not hard r. Also, perhaps he has a valid pass. Assume good intent.

no one is passing judgement

we're supportive people here

it's ok to hate burt

we all hate burt

in fact, not hating burt is, well, bannable at this point

and we all thought saddam hussein might have had WMDs. it was not for naught. and you know sometimes when the action starts happening lines get blurred and crossed. and maybe we dropped some of the white stuff on our own guys. or maybe it was some of the stuff we sold them back in the 80s.

point is

it's over now

we are all friends

except for with burt

everything is OK

everything is going fine

These last 5 - 10 pages (things are moving fast in this thread!) I've been waiting for someone to provide the zoomed out commentary!
You knocked it outa the park damn!
100% worth the price of admission which was reading post after post of people arguing past each other.
For the record (no one asked) I also hate Burt, but because of his fucking shit post right here, of an assclown twitter personality, in a serious thread.

Really these last 2 pages are comedy gold.

I'm pretty sure I agree with Burt's points in this thread as I'll elaborate on in another post.

BurtReynolds wrote:Legality and morality are different things. I don't have a problem with him being arrested and investigated. Of course you do that. I'll leave the legal stuff to the others who know the law. But at least right now, there is nothing to suggest that he went there to murder people, and much to suggest he didn't, yet so many here have already completely made up their minds that he is guilty, and as far as I can tell, their opinions are based on absolutely nothing except preconceived notions.
Lots of confusion in this thread about who's arguing what.

These are the three categories up for debate right? You've got:
morality — was he in the wrong to do what he did?
legality — did he break any laws
sensibility — is this guy a fucking moron for taking the actions he did

I don't have much academic knowledge of philosophy so I feel like I don't fully understand how to frame the question of morality.
Giving it a shot, I'd say for me it helps to break down his actions and actually think of it in the negative (immoral, wrong).
Was he immoral to travel to a community he was new to with the intent to protect people and property? against rioters.
Was he immoral in shooting 3 people, with 2 dead, given the circumstances.

My perspective with very limited understanding of events, and also not having watched the twitter videos:
morality — He had a right to be there so long as he was neither initiating violence nor attacking innocent people which of course includes peaceful protestors. And he had a right to defend himself if he was acting in self-defense.
If he clearly didn't have to shoot his gun to defend himself, others, or property then he's morally wrong.
legality — I really don't know what the laws are around this.
sensibility — You put yourself in a heated situation bad shit can happen. I don't know if I pass on much more judgement than that.
If he wasn't prepared for the situation and/or wasn't ready for the consequences he's definitely a moron.

Now if this guy shot peaceful protesters that's completely different. Evil, deserves harsh punishment, and irreparably idiotic. That's a monstrous thing to do. Don't see anyone here arguing that it's not monstrous (though I do have macphisto blocked  . jk even he would agree it's monstrous).

It would take a lot to compel me to put myself in that situation. If I was protecting a friend's or family's house or business... and even then I'm not comfortable with guns so really I wouldn't do it. It's not inherently morally wrong to shoot rioters though (I can feel the heat coming saying that, fuck!) Depends on the circumstances.
I have a strong (probably irrational?) hatred of looters, burglars, thieves, etc. that seems to go farther than a lot of other posters in this thread though so that definitely colors my perspective.

edit: I'm making edits for clarity.
