How has the Trump phenomena changed you?

Post by BurtReynolds »

Fascinated to hear how the last four or so years has affected who you are.

I'll post more on it later... but basically any belief in objective authority is completely decimated with me.

Has anyone not gone insane these past 4 years? I certainly have. Any non-crazies left?

i've managed to keep pretty sane

i haven't watched trump speak or read his tweets more than like ~10 times total in the last 4 years

i got burnt out hating George W. Bush and figured i'd take a breather on this one

everyone in the liberal establishment agenda-setting media already hates him too so it made it easier to sit this one out, emotionally

This flag tells you which houses have expensive guns and plate carriers. Also, if there's unregulated HAM radio transmissions in your area, this guy did it.

I am more pessimistic, disenfranchised from giving a fuck, and certain that we're going to blow ourselves up than ever before.

It's quite the exercise in cognitive dissonance when thinking about my kids and their future.

I’ll put the radio on talk / news in the car more often.

I toggle between KOMO 1000 which is mainstream and then 570 KVI which is a conservative station. It’s interesting to hear them cover the same story from completely different angles. Everyone is just on the attack like ALL the time.

But that radio listening started more for early coronavirus coverage, not Trump, and I have continued it for 6 months now.

Other than that, everyone needs to chill the fuck out. I cannot stand politics. Divisive and put forth as entertainment. “If it bleeds, it leads.” Every fucking story bleeds now.

As an outsider it has made me more open to listening first before shitting on a different political party. I am more outcome focused than my side/your side, and realize a little more that different people focus on different parts of the outcome.

Glad Canada has more than a two party system.

I thought the US had the best separation of powers and most accountable set up of government. But all I've seen is an overly amount of concern about the make up of the Supreme Court and complete abdication of responsibility by Congress and Senate while there is a whack-a-mole as President.

A better understanding that outside of Sanders, that even the most far left politician would be too right wing to get elected in Canada and many other countries.

Makes me a little happier about our high taxes and social safety nets. You can't build a caring country without caring.

If I was a Canadian working in the US, I'd have gone home after year two, year three at worst.
Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
