These were great! They came out in that brief, "man, the Dreamcast version of everything is so killer" era. PS2 ended DC quickly.

No Switch is a huge bummer. THPS2 was one of my most played games but sometimes it's best to just let nostalgia lie.

All the best songs in the pop punk tournament were from these games.

Kotaku is just too much sometimes...

"As with many hobbies, the upper echelons of skateboarding have long been dominated by white dudes who have the privilege of rarely coming face-to-face with obstacles based on their identity. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 may play like the old games, but in improvements like changing the “Mute Air” to the “Weddle” and expanding the lineup with more diverse skaters, the developers are moving this iconic franchise in the right direction."

"Skateboarding is iffy because white men, but renaming the deaf guy's move is the wokeness."

Fuck off, Kotaku.

Actually if you knew any history about skateboarding, it's appropriate that Weddle finally got some recognition for inventing the Mute grab. Everyone just assumes Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero or Mark Gonz invented every trick ever.

There's also been a big exposure of pro skateboarders who have done some real slimy shit in 2020 going on. I know no one here has ever heard of Kenny Anderson or Justin Figgy or Brandon Biebel besides me, but fuck all those creeps.

Anyway, this game is looking awesome from the demo footage I was watching earlier. The only nitpick I really have is that they didn't include Mos Def's B Boy Document '99 from THPS2 in the new soundtrack, but decided to add a Machine Gun Kelly song.

I never said he didn't deserve credit. I meant that Kotaku's leading statement is completely pointless. So what if the majority of pro skateboarders are fit, healthy white men. Not everything needs to be the struggle Olympics. Also, Elissa Steamer, who has a vagina, and Kareem Campbell, who is a person of color, were two of the coolest skaters in the original THPS. So miss me with this bullshit narrative.

This has nothing to do with the games that came out 20 years ago, though.

I didn't even read the Kotaku article because Kotaku sucks.

And yes, Kareem and Elissa are rad and still shred in their mid 40's. Elissa's part in the skate video Baker 4 from last year was killer and Kareem's 360 flip to fakie in the THPS remake promo video is awesome, especially since he's barely put out any footage in something like 20 years now.

I recommend looking at the reactions of the actual parties involved so you don't get caught up in that bullshit. Tony Hawk decided to do a nice thing and Weddle is apparently touched by it. That's all that really matters, and it's a cool story.
